People are speculating that Taylor Swift’s former boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, is dating someone new after a fan noticed some interesting activity on his social media.
With her new album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl,’ receiving a lot of attention – both good and bad – fans have noticed something interesting. Someone pointed out on X (formerly Twitter) that Joe Alwyn, Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend, liked a post featuring an actress who looks very similar to Swift.
The user jokingly asked if they could start a rumor, then suggested that Alwyn, 34, and his former colleague Hunter Schafer, 26, might be a couple.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for both Alwyn and Schafer, but they haven’t heard back yet.
I was so thrilled to see photos of Joe Alwyn and Hunter Schafer at Cannes! It was amazing to see him looking so happy on the red carpet, especially considering all the speculation about Taylor Swift’s new album and whether it was about him. They both looked fantastic and genuinely joyful, and honestly, it was a really heartwarming sight.
A key piece of the false story was a screenshot from Schafer’s Instagram. The post, from May 7th, showed photos taken while she was preparing for an afterparty at the Met Gala.
Notably, Alwyn was listed among the people who had liked the photo.
The post also got hearts from several other stars and more than a million fans.
The photos showed Schafer wearing a revealing beige satin corset that highlighted her figure.
Okay, so when I first saw photos of Schafer, I *immediately* noticed it – his long blonde hair and amazing body just reminded me so much of Taylor Swift’s ex, Joe Alwyn! Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny. It’s like seeing a bit of Taylor’s past all over again, especially since they were together for *seven years*, from 2016 to 2023. I can’t be the only one who sees it, right?
‘She reminds him of Taylor,’ suggested a fan.
One commenter pointed out that Hunter perfectly fits the type of person he usually goes for, referencing a previous post about a relationship theory.
Another person suggested they could be a new ‘It couple.’
‘i LOVEEEE this rumour,’ enthused one commenter.
But another reply claimed that ‘Hunter deserves someone w/o commitment issues.’
However, many other fans seemed to enthusiastically embrace the rumor, even though it appeared to be made up. One fan simply wrote, ‘Yes! I’m all for it!’
Another declared that they ‘would not be normal abt this’
Both Alwyn and Schafer appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’ dark comedy, Kinds of Kindness, which came out in June 2024.
The film consists of three separate short stories, all starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley. Hunter appears in the last story, playing a woman evaluated by a troubling sex cult who believe she might be a spiritual leader.
As a film buff, I noticed Alwyn had a presence throughout the movie, popping up in smaller roles across all three parts. Interestingly, despite both of us being in the same film, our characters never actually shared a scene – he wasn’t in the segment I appeared in, and vice versa. It’s always a bit strange when that happens on set!
Even though they had minor parts in the movie, they enjoyed a luxurious time at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, just like the main actors.
Alwyn had collaborated with director Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone before, notably on their Academy Award-winning film, *The Favourite*.
Currently, it’s unknown if Schafer is in a relationship. She hasn’t shared much publicly about her dating history.
She was most publicly linked to her Euphoria colleague, Dominic Fike, and they dated from 2022 to 2023.
In 2023, she revealed that she had been in a relationship with the Spanish singer Rosalía for about five months in 2019, something that wasn’t publicly known before.
Recently, many fans have wondered if Taylor Swift hinted at her past relationship with Alwyn in the first song released from her new project, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ called ‘The Fate of Ophelia.’
The song draws inspiration from the character of Hamlet, and there’s a link to Alwyn because he’s playing Laertes, Ophelia’s brother, in a new movie version of the play.
Fans also interpreted the song as unfavorably comparing Alwyn to Swift’s fiancé Travis Kelce.
