Maks Chmerkovskiy has publicly shared his thoughts about Jan Ravnik joining ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ as a professional dancer.
I was listening to my wife, Peta’s, podcast the other day, and she got a question about Jan being on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Honestly, I just don’t think she should be a professional dancer on the show. I said it, and I stand by it – she just doesn’t have the background to be there.
Maks says that Jan, a 30-year-old who used to dance backup for Taylor Swift, lacks basic dance skills, quality movement, and an understanding of how to connect with a dance partner.
He spoke with strong emotion, saying it was ridiculous that people couldn’t see the obvious and were afraid to speak up about it.
Maks pointed to Jan’s choreography for last Tuesday’s ‘Wicked Night’ as an example.
The ballroom dance champion pointed out that he didn’t know what the foxtrot was supposed to look like.

Jan is currently partnered with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck in the competition.
Maks wondered how someone could expect him to teach and present the material in a way so different from even ballroom dancing.
‘We had this criticism weeks ago, and I’m like, “Bro, is anybody going to explain it to him?”‘
He explained that his issue with Jan isn’t with her personally, but with the people who decided to cast him on the show.
The father of three stated he has no issues with Jan, whoever he may be. He added that a chance to do something positive was lost.
Peta, his wife, added that Jen is facing a significant challenge because her partner lacks experience.
I’m worried she isn’t learning the fundamental skills she needs for dance. It feels like she’s missing the foundation.
She implied Jan got the role because of his connection to Taylor, the pop star he toured with during the Eras Tour.

The podcast host revealed that he was hired because he’s a dancer who has worked with Taylor Swift, stating it was the clear explanation for the decision.
Besides all that, he’s a really nice person – he looks fantastic and is clearly a talented dancer. However, it’s completely absurd to hire someone who doesn’t specialize in ballroom dance to teach a celebrity how to do it.
This is not the first time Maks has aired his grievances with the popular ABC series.
In September 2024 he slammed Anna Delvey, branding her a ‘s****y dancer.’
He questioned the producers’ choice of the socialite, suggesting there were many other candidates they could have selected, especially considering her past.
He also said her ‘standoffish’ personality was ‘not really going to help her in this competition.’
