It’s common for famous people to face lawsuits, and Taylor Swift recently experienced this with her upcoming 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl. A Las Vegas showgirl is claiming Swift used a trademarked name for the album without permission.

Maren (Wade) Flagg claims in a lawsuit filed in California federal court that she owns the trademark to “Confessions of a Showgirl,” originally a column and later adapted into a live cabaret performance.

Wade alleges that Taylor Swift’s extensive album promotion overshadowed her own brand and nearly forced her out of business. While Swift is entitled to creative freedom, the lawsuit argues that this doesn’t justify using a brand name so similar to Wade’s, creating confusion among customers.

Even if Wade owns the trademark for “Confessions of a Showgirl,” it seems distinct enough from Taylor Swift’s album title, and the phrase itself is common enough, that the outcome of the lawsuit is really anyone’s guess.
