Official sources in Shanghai are engaging in preliminary discussions with Swift’s management team with the aim of inviting her to perform in the bustling urban center. This information was shared by a city representative to The Paper, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday.

As a devoted Swiftie myself, I was taken aback when the news broke that we might not get the break Taylor Swift, age 35, had been planning after concluding her highly successful Eras tour in Canada in early December. Most of us had expected her to take some well-deserved time off.

After performing an exhausting series of 149 concerts across five continents, spanning from March 2023 to the end of 2024, she wrapped up her tour with a three-night stint in Vancouver.

One enthusiastic fan exclaimed, “Wow, that’s global significance!” after hearing about the rumored discussions on platform X.

Taylor Swift, having just announced a $1.7 million renovation of her Rhode Island home, surprisingly did not schedule any stops on her Eras Tour in China, even though she performed several shows in Japan and Singapore.

If an agreement is reached for concerts in Shanghai, it’s quite probable that she’ll be warmly welcomed due to the immense popularity of Taylor Swift across China.

In a conversation with The Paper, Zhang Qi (Shanghai’s culture and tourism bureau deputy director) mentioned that he, along with other city officials, have engaged in discussions about potential concerts with the artist’s representatives.

He expressed that the possibility of it happening ultimately depends on market conditions and the appeal of Shanghai. However, he remains hopeful that there might be a chance for success this year.

So far, Swift hasn’t commented on the report of discussions for new shows.

Shanghai, a significant financial center, boasts the title of China’s most populated city with approximately 24.2 million inhabitants. However, China is home to many other immense urban areas that might eagerly accommodate several Taylor Swift concerts.

Fans were curious, with one wondering if she was ‘bring back the eras tour.’

Another joked that Taylor was in the midst of ‘the never ending eras tour.’

A different user mentioned that they would stream [potential shows] on rednote, which is similar to TikTok in China.

The other user expressed that the potential concerts could be massive, implying they might expect a rapid sell-out.

One individual demonstrated the financial effect of Swift’s Eras tour by arranging a vacation, should the Shanghai concerts take place.
