As a huge Taylor Swift fan, I’ve been following all the buzz around her new song, ‘Actually Romantic,’ and it seems like she might be hinting it’s about Charli XCX! There was a lot of talk online about a possible feud between them, and this song definitely feels like a response – maybe even a confirmation! It’s so exciting to see Taylor address things through her music.
Taylor Swift and Charli XCX, who previously toured together, are reportedly feuding. This comes after Swift released a new song, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl,’ which includes lyrics many interpret as a reference to Charli’s alleged drug use.
Singer Charli XCX, 33, first connected with Taylor Swift, 35, through her husband, George Daniel, who plays in the band The 1975. This happened when Taylor was briefly dating The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy.
It seems Taylor and Charli aren’t on good terms, with Taylor reportedly responding to Charli’s song that many think is about her.
Taylor Swift’s new song includes a line that echoes the title of Charli XCX’s 2018 song ‘Everything Is Romantic.’ Swift sings about being called ‘Boring Barbie’ by someone who’s been emboldened by alcohol – specifically, ‘when the coke’s got you brave.’
Many listeners felt the singer’s comment was a clear dig, especially considering she’s talked about drug use in her songs.

At her album release party, Taylor didn’t deny rumors about the songs, and even explained that one of them is ‘a love letter to someone who hates you.’
Sometimes you suddenly realize how someone feels about you through their obvious actions. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to recognize and even appreciate those displays of affection – it’s actually quite flattering.
It’s incredibly thoughtful of you to give me any attention, even if it’s criticism. In my line of work, any attention is good attention, and I really appreciate you thinking of me.
In the song ‘Actually Romantic,’ the lyrics describe a situation where someone was called ‘Boring Barbie’ while under the influence, and then that same person high-fived the singer’s ex and expressed relief that the ex had ended things with them.
Someone wrote a song about how seeing me bothers them, and while it might sound harsh, I actually find it kind of endearing.
This follows rumors that Charli wrote a song about Taylor Swift, titled “Sympathy Is A Knife,” which appeared on her popular album, Brat.
In the song, Charli sings about feeling lost and questioning her own perceptions. She wonders if she’s overreacting, as one person seems to be mocking her, while another, named George, suggests she’s simply being overly suspicious.
I really don’t want to see her behind the scenes at my boyfriend’s concert. I’m secretly hoping they split up soon.

Taylor Swift revealed more about one song on her new album, explaining that it’s about discovering someone you thought you knew had secretly been holding a grudge against you – a conflict you were unaware of.
Suddenly, they begin to reveal they’ve been obsessing over you without you even realizing it, and they make sure you know it.
I was absolutely thrilled to see Taylor dancing along when Charli performed ‘Von Dutch’ at the Grammys! It was amazing – and so well-deserved, with ‘Brat’ being nominated for eight awards!
People online criticized Taylor, saying she doesn’t align with feminist values and that her song lyrics are overly cheesy.
A post on X claimed that Taylor Swift creating a song seemingly critical of Charli XCX demonstrates she isn’t a feminist, and that she released different versions of the song specifically to prevent other female artists from charting on Billboard.
A social media user expressed strong disapproval towards Taylor Swift, using offensive language and accusing her of being envious of Charli XCX. They also criticized Swift’s recent album, claiming it was a clumsy attempt to criticize Charli XCX with overly sentimental and awkward lyrics.
Charli was able to film ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ but Taylor wasn’t able to film ‘Brat,’ and that’s the simple explanation.
I don’t think ‘I’m Sorry but the Life of a Showgirl’ is one of Tay’s best albums. It feels quite simple, and I’m confused by the unnecessary criticism of Charli.

However, not everyone agreed, with one person commenting: ‘People are getting overly enthusiastic about this album. Even Taylor Swift’s weakest song is still better than Charli XCX’s strongest.’
It’s hilarious how Taylor was dancing so enthusiastically to Charli’s performance, especially knowing she has an unreleased song about her! I just love her energy.
Daily Mail contacted Taylor’s representative for comment at the time.
Taylor’s song includes lines about celebrating an ex’s rejection and being upset about seeing her with someone else. Many believe these lyrics allude to Charli XCX’s relationship with Matty Healy, who Taylor briefly dated last year.
She suggests the singer has a strong, almost obsessive interest in her, saying, ‘It’s actually sweet how much time you’ve spent thinking about me – it’s honestly a little crazy.’
Taylor and Charli have been friends for years – Charli even opened for Taylor on her 2018 tour. However, recently, rumors have started circulating that they’re no longer close and may even be feuding.
Charli, also known as Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is married to George, and through that relationship, she’s become closer with George’s bandmate, Matty, over the past few years.
Matty is now engaged to Gabbriette Bechtel, a model and a close friend of Charli’s who has been in her music videos before.

Charli, George, Matty, and Gabbriette recently took a beach trip together. Shortly after, Charli and George got married in a beautiful ceremony in Sicily. This feels like a big change for Charli, especially considering her past touring partner.
Charli was the opening act for Taylor Swift on over 50 nights during Taylor’s 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour. Taylor has won 14 Grammy Awards.
The first sign of problems appeared in 2019. In an interview with Pitchfork, Charli described feeling like she was performing to a very young and uninterested audience, saying it felt like ‘waving to 5-year-olds.’
She went on to say following the tour she it made her decide to never open for anyone again.
Charli explained that after facing many challenges, she’s ready to take control and confidently embrace her position as someone who has overcome the odds.
After receiving criticism, she explained on social media that her comments were misinterpreted. She clarified that, as she stated in her article and previously, she is very thankful to Taylor Swift for the opportunity to be an opening act.
She’s a hugely influential artist for people my age, and her Reputation tour was a record-breaking success.
Before the tour, she mostly played shows for adults, and performing for audiences of all ages was a new experience for her.
