Taylor Swift Announces New Album, The Life of a Showgirl

Taylor Swift is dropping a new album.

On August 11th, a countdown appeared on Swift’s website against a shimmering orange backdrop, culminating at 12:12 a.m. ET on August 12th. With excitement brewing among fans, the site momentarily crashed under the surge of visitors. However, preorders for the new album will be shipped out prior to October 13th, although the exact release date is still unconfirmed. The cover art and tracklist are also yet to be disclosed.

It seems that Swift will unveil her new album art in an upcoming episode of the podcast “New Heights,” which is hosted by her boyfriend, NFL player Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs, and his retired brother, Jason Kelce, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Taylor Swift’s upcoming album is titled “The Life of a Showgirl” and will be her 12th original studio release. Her most recent album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” was dropped on April 19, 2024. In addition to this, Swift has republished four versions of her earlier albums as part of an initiative to regain control over her musical creations.

Instead of immediately reissuing her 2017 album ‘Reputation,’ as some fans had hoped, Taylor Swift recently purchased back the rights to her masters and announced in a letter to her followers that she would postpone the process of re-recording the album for the time being.

The release of Swift’s new album is teased by various clues, similar to “easter eggs,” that the artist often shares before major announcements. One such hint was a series of 12 photos posted by Swift’s marketing team on Instagram, showcasing Swift in orange outfits during her Eras Tour. The post’s caption subtly referenced Swift’s photobook, The Eras Tour, with the quote, “Thinking about when she said, ‘See you next era…'”, which mirrors the closing line of a letter from Swift to her fans in the book.

On Monday, the Kelce brothers’ “New Heights” podcast shared a sneak peek for an extraordinary episode on August 13, hinting at an exceptionally unique guest that has sparked excitement among fans due to Taylor Swift’s affinity for the number 13. Later, they confirmed that their special guest would indeed be Taylor Swift in a post that read, “Taylor is about to do a podcast!” The episode will air on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

It seems that the month of August holds a special place for Taylor Swift. Beyond penning a song titled ‘August,’ she’s made approximately 30% of her album announcements (excluding her first two albums) in this month, according to Kayla Wong who manages a social media account that tracks Swift-related news through data analysis. Typically, her albums come out about two to three months following their announcement.

Swift additionally created a Spotify playlist named ‘And, baby, that’s show business for you,’ sporting an orange initials logo against a luminous green backdrop – colors reminiscent of her upcoming album. This playlist, filled with many of her previously released songs primarily produced by Max Martin and Shellback, has sparked fan theories about the anticipated sound of the new album.

Sabrina Carpenter, slated to perform as the opening act for Swift’s Eras Tour concerts and soon releasing her own album, has sparked fan speculation about a possible appearance in the show The Life of a Showgirl.

Amidst all the rumors and excitement, other Swifties are relishing in the recent news. One fan expressed, “Taylor Swift felt I needed a reason to keep living and chose to reveal TS12 this week,” while another stated, “I almost forgot the main purpose of existing is getting to listen to a new Taylor Swift album.
