The new series Marshals launched on March 1st as the first spin-off from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. Less than two weeks after it began, Marshals has quickly become the most-watched show.
The new series Marshals, featuring Kayce Dutton from Yellowstone, reached the top of the charts on March 11th, surpassing South Park. South Park hadn’t released new episodes since December 2025, but had consistently held the top spot, making it hard for anything else to break through. However, Marshals achieved record viewership, proving Taylor Sheridan remains a major draw for Paramount+.
Besides Marshals, Taylor Sheridan’s Landman continues to be popular, currently ranking tenth. It’s performing well not only on Paramount+, but also on streaming services like SkyShowtime and Comcast, plus on Amazon’s on-demand platform, particularly in Europe.
Marshals Set a Viewership Record Despite Franchise-Worst Ratings
The new series starring Luke Grimes hasn’t immediately won over critics or viewers. Initial reviews gave it a low score of 43%, and while that number has slightly risen to 47% with more feedback, it remains largely negative.
Although critics haven’t been very impressed, this new crime drama shows promise. Despite only airing two episodes, many reviews have pointed out that the fight scenes aren’t believable, and some have compared it to The A-Team, but without the comedic elements.
Even though critics weren’t impressed, viewers loved the premiere of Marshals. It drew an impressive 9.5 million viewers, marking the biggest audience for a new scripted broadcast series in over seven years, according to Nielsen. The previous record holder was FBI, another police drama that went on to become a popular franchise.
I’m really excited – just a few days after the second episode dropped on Sunday, it’s already number one in the U.S.! It seems like this show is gaining even more momentum, and its second week might actually be bigger than the first. As a film and TV fan, that’s incredibly promising!
What’s Next for the Yellowstone Franchise?
Yellowstone is likely Paramount+’s most popular show, but the streaming service has been subtly distancing itself from directly mentioning the original series. For instance, a spin-off called Marshals was initially promoted as Y: Marshals to connect it to the Yellowstone universe. However, before the show even aired, they removed the ‘Y’ from the title.
Taylor Sheridan’s latest show on Paramount+, originally planned as part of his popular Western universe, is now a standalone series called The Madison. It will premiere on March 14th and stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell.
Besides the main Yellowstone series, several other shows are in the works. A prequel called 1944 is being developed, and The Dutton Ranch, featuring Beth and Rip’s story after Yellowstone ends, is currently being filmed. There’s also another prequel, 6666, in development, and possibilities for characters from these shows to appear in each other’s storylines.
New episodes of Marshals come out every Sunday on Paramount+.
