Taylor Sheridan’s Forgotten Star Trek: Enterprise Role Before Yellowstone Success

Before becoming the creator of the hit show Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan had a small role in Star Trek: Enterprise 14 years prior. Sheridan, currently one of television’s most successful producers, recently moved his work from Paramount to NBCUniversal after achieving significant success.

Star Trek: Enterprise aired on UPN from 2001 to 2005, lasting four seasons. Throughout the series, featuring Captain Jonathan Archer (played by Scott Bakula) and the crew of the NX-01 Enterprise, many well-known actors made guest appearances. These included Dean Stockwell, who also starred with Bakula in Quantum Leap, as well as Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef and Peter Weller of RoboCop fame.

Taylor Sheridan looks completely different in a guest appearance on Star Trek: Enterprise. In season 3, episode 12, “Chosen Realm,” he plays Jareb, a fervent follower who assists his leader, Pri’Nam D’Jamat (Conor O’Farrell), in taking over the NX-01 Enterprise. He achieves this transformation with the help of a wig and makeup prosthetics.

Jareb, played by Sheridan, only had a small amount of dialogue, mostly to provide background information. (This limited role might have influenced Taylor’s later writing style, leading him to avoid excessive exposition.) In Star Trek: Enterprise, Jareb’s purpose was to assist D’Jamat in seizing control of the Enterprise bridge, and he physically fought with Subcommander T’Pol, played by Jolene Blalock.

Interestingly, Taylor Sheridan’s name was misspelled as “Tayler Sheridan” in the credits, which probably explains why his appearance on Star Trek isn’t well-remembered. After Enterprise, he returned to UPN for a more notable role, playing Danny Boyd in five episodes of Veronica Mars.

Taylor Sheridan Became TV’s Most Successful Producer After Star Trek

Taylor Sheridan appeared in several TV shows as a guest star, including NYPD Blue, CSI: NY, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. However, he’s best known for his role as Deputy David Hale in FX’s Sons of Anarchy, where he appeared in 21 episodes.

Sheridan wasn’t satisfied with his acting career, and it became clear his real strengths were in filmmaking. He found success as a screenwriter, crafting films like Sicario and earning an Academy Award nomination for Hell or High Water. He also wrote Wind River and Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Taylor Sheridan and John Linson created the hit TV show Yellowstone in 2018 for Paramount Network. Taylor Sheridan was involved in writing every episode of the series, and it quickly became a very popular show.
