Tattooed Star Turns 40, Worked with JLo, Can You Guess Who?

Could you identify the individual whose 40th birthday celebration follows his headline-making appearance at the Met Gala on Monday in New York City, adorned with tattoos?

He worked with Jennifer Lopez on a stage performance five years ago.

This individual, hailing from Colombia, is both a vocalist and an entrepreneur. They have significantly contributed to making the genre ‘reggaeton’ more popular in mainstream music.

He boasts over 35 million record sales globally and is recognized as a top-tier Latin artist in terms of record sales.

This individual boasts an impressive collection of honors, with six Latin Grammys, eleven Billboard Latin Music Awards, and five MTV Video Music Awards among them.

Who is he?

He is J Balvin.

During the 2020 Super Bowl Half Time Show, he teamed up with Lopez for a shared performance. Additionally, they jointly produced the song “RITMO” along with the Black Eyed Peas.

This comes after Balvin said becoming a father brought him ‘peace’.

In 2021, the musician happily welcomed his three-year-old son Rico with model Valentina Ferrer. He expresses that Rico is the most wonderful event in his life so far.

He shared with everyone: “Three years ago, I became a father. This significant life event has deeply influenced my latest album. I find it incredibly potent. It also serves as a reminder that I am content. Now more than ever, I know exactly what I desire.

Upon the arrival of my son, a transformation occurred within me, igniting a desire to savor life, attend to its smallest aspects, and appreciate every detail. This sentiment seems to permeate this album, emanating from an energy that is profoundly grateful, mature, yet retaining the essence of positive vibes that has always been part of my makeup.

Three years following the debut of his fifth album titled ‘Jose’, Balvin unveiled fresh track ‘Rayo’. He asserts that his recent outlook on life is clearly reflected in the tunes.

He mentioned: ‘This album reflects the time in my life when I was a child, creating music purely for the joy of it, disregarding any business aspects. It brings back memories of my childhood dreams of becoming an artist. The hunger to succeed was strongest during those childhood years.’

Currently, I retain the very same passion for music that I did previously, yet there’s no need to demonstrate my abilities anymore; instead, I simply revel in the experience. This album is significant to me because creating it was an enjoyable journey.

I never intended to create an album, but it organically unfolded as I simply indulged in my passion for music each day. Before I knew it, we found ourselves awestruck, realizing we had amassed a wealth of songs. It was then that the idea sparked: ‘Let’s share this abundance of positive vibes with the world.’

Last year J Balvin did an internship with Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton.

Jose Balvin, known as the superstar, shared with Hypebeast: “I’m joining forces with Pharrell for the Joopiter auction. Pharrell has been a guiding figure in my life and I’ve gained valuable knowledge from him about fashion, art, and innovation. As a result, we are unveiling my innovative design studio named VVT – Vita Veloce Team – which translates to ‘fast life’ in Italian. VVT is also a collaboration with the talented designer Mattias Gollin – an exceptional creative mind.

Balvin asserts that Marc Jacobs, who served as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton from 1997 to 2014, is due ‘the recognition he deserves’ for laying the groundwork for designers such as Pharrell and Kanye West (founder of Yeezy).

He mentioned: “Indeed, from my childhood days, I dreamt of being associated with Louis Vuitton, although I couldn’t manage it financially at that time. It was Marc Jacobs who paved the way for this culture. He offered opportunities to artists like Pharrell and Kanye West. This move eventually brought back the popular ‘Millionaire Glasses’. That’s when the collaboration with Murakami began. Credit should be given to Marc Jacobs, as he was instrumental in transforming the cultural landscape. And then came Virgil Abloh, who created an entire universe—now it’s Pharrell’s turn.

Balvin, a frequent attendee at Fashion Week and an advocate for increased Latino presence in the fashion industry, is willing to perform tasks such as delivering coffee during his internship under Pharrell.

He went on to say: ‘One of my aspirations is to become a creative director at Louis Vuitton. I am making plans for an internship with Louis Vuitton and Pharrell, which he has agreed to. So, I might be there in January or February, working as an intern for about a month or two. I’m eager to learn, regardless of whether Pharrell asks me to fetch coffee. I even told him that I would do it without any ego, during the internship I will be Jose, not J Balvin.’
