Taskmaster star’s near-perfect British comedy finally confirms UK release date

Taskmaster star Tim Key’s new movie has confirmed its UK release date.

As a solitary gamer dwelling on a secluded tropical paradise known as Wallis Island, I, an unusual lottery champion named Charles, have a whimsical aspiration – to bring back together the legendary musical duo, McGwyer-Mortimer. In a daring move, I extend invitations to these esteemed artists, inviting them for an exclusive, island-bound performance at my humble abode on this remote slice of heaven.

Despite everyone agreeed to his proposal, events didn’t unfold as planned since disagreements arose amongst the band members and ex-romantic partners (Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan). However, will Charles manage to restore his cherished music opportunity?

Originally penned by Basden and Key, the British comedy made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Prior to hitting US cinemas on March 28, Universal Pictures has now announced that the film will also be shown in UK theaters.

Gathering his bandmates once again, the movie THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND, which has been selected for both Sundance and SXSW, will be in cinemas starting May 30, as shown on the poster featuring its main actors.

Under the guidance of director James Griffiths, the film titled “The Ballad of Wallis Island” has garnered an almost flawless critical rating of 96%, based on 23 appraisals, on Rotten Tomatoes.

In January, a teaser for the film emerged showcasing Herb McGwyer (played by Basden), bewildered upon reaching the island, where he uncovers some surprising aspects about an exclusive gathering that was more personal in nature.

He queries Charles about where the crowd will be located since they’re displaying the event venue – an isolated pebble shore. You mentioned there’d be a hundred people there, he adds.

Following the discovery that Charles would be the sole attendee, McGwyer encounters an unexpected guest: his former partner and bandmate, Nell Mortimer, accompanied by her new spouse. Could this tense encounter develop into a lasting situation?

The movie “The Ballad of Wallis Island” is set to hit the screens in US theaters on March 28, 2025, and it will also be available in UK cinemas starting from May 30, 2025.
