Taskmaster star’s breastfeeding comedy poster sparks investigation
As a seasoned gamer of life and stand-up comedy shows, I must say, I find Fern Brady’s latest controversy quite amusing. Having attended my fair share of edgy comedy performances, I appreciate the boundary-pushing nature of her art. The poster for her show “I Gave You Milk To Drink” is not only visually striking but also a clever commentary on societal norms and taboos.
A poster for Taskmaster star Fern Brady’s new stand-up show has sparked an investigation.
The comedian is currently touring her show I Gave You Milk To Drink, which has been promoted with a poster depicting Brady feeding breastmilk to a priest in front of a stained glass window.
Yet, it’s been disclosed that a single complaint was lodged concerning the poster, with the Advertising Standards Authority currently examining the issue.
According to a statement, the person filing the complaint questions if the advertisement is disrespectful towards Christianity, as they perceive it as making fun of their faith. (via Evening Standard)
As an avid enthusiast, I can share that we’ve initiated an official examination. However, at this juncture, no verdict has been handed down regarding whether the advertisement violates the UK’s advertising regulations.
In response to the recent uproar, Brady herself took to Instagram, posting a video accompanied by this caption: “Thanks to whoever complained about the poster! Here’s where you can grab tickets for Apollo and all my ‘milky titty’ shows. #comedy #apollo #london #breastfeedingmama
She went on to say in the video: “Tickets were selling well. It was all looking good. And then some virgin complains to the Advertising Standards Authority about my beautiful tour poster. There’s not even anything wrong with it. Why are you complaining?
Here’s why I need to share this with you now – it’s the first of November. I’m referring to my forthcoming performance in London, Brady noted humorously. If you happen to be the one who criticized the poster, I sincerely hope you won’t attend!
She later shared an article about the ASA probe, writing: “A Catholic would have just said ‘The Lactation of St Bernard’ so this complaint has Protestant energy written all over it.”
In the year 2022, I had the privilege of joining the cast for the 14th season of “Taskmaster.” My fellow competitors included Dara Ó Briain (the eventual winner), John Kearns, Munya Chawawa, and the witty Sarah Millican. What a memorable experience it was!
Taskmaster airs and streams on Channel 4. A Junior Taskmaster spinoff has been confirmed.
