Taskmaster star Bob Mortimer shares health update

As a long-time fan of Bob Mortimer, it’s heartening to see him sharing his health update and talking about his resilience through challenges. His journey with shingles and subsequent recovery is truly inspiring, especially when he managed to complete eight episodes of “Gone Fishing” despite the difficulties.

Television personality Bob Mortimer, known for his role on Taskmaster, has given an update on his health and shared that he’s recovering well following an episode of shingles.

In 2017, when the comedian won the fifth season of Channel 4’s show, they talked to The Mirror about the upcoming seventh season of Gone Fishing, a program they co-host with Paul Whitehouse.

During the interview, it came to light that Mortimer had been grappling with weakened muscles since his six-month struggle with shingles. As a result, he was unable to walk during half of the eight episodes.

He reminisced, “I wasn’t feeling great, and it added to the difficulty, but just as expected, Paul took care of me and helped me persevere.” For a good portion of the season, I found it hard to walk, making things quite tough on occasion.

In Trent, they escorted me from my wheelchair to the summit of the hill – an unusual sight indeed, as you seldom see me on my feet. However, that day, I was trying to regain some strength and muscle mass. By the end of the series, I’d say I was 80% restored, and by then, I moved around quite sprightly.

Mortimer, who has previously graced the screen on “Would I Lie to You?”, went on to tantalize details about the upcoming season of “Gone Fishing”. He declared: “The first two episodes are absolutely outstanding; they’re the best ‘Gone Fishing’ episodes ever produced. In my opinion, they’re simply magnificent.

Paul and I are continually improving in our skills, but it might come across as boastful. Instead, I’d like to express that we seem to have a better understanding of what the show requires and what appeals to its audience now. It’s quite endearing, almost like two old friends enjoying hot dogs by the lake – a charming and nostalgic scene. The hot dogs were truly delightful, and the idea behind it was nothing short of genius.

Despite it being seven years since Mortimer appeared on Taskmaster, the show has continued to thrive, with its 18th series, featuring Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee, and Rosie Jones, currently airing at present.

The Taskmaster show is broadcast every Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4. Also, there’s a spin-off version called Junior Taskmaster. Meanwhile, the series Gone Fishing can be found on BBC Two, airing every Sunday at 9pm.
