Taskmaster star addresses claims he was bullied on BBC show 3 years after axe
Taskmaster star Dara Ó Briain has addressed claims he was bullied on BBC show Mock the Week.
17 years ago, the comedy talk show stopped broadcasting following a run of three decades, with the well-known comedian presiding over the program throughout its entire span.
Yet, while it was on the air, frequent humor directed at Ó Briain included jabs related to his physical features, origin, and speech pattern.

During a recent conversation with The Times, the celebrity was questioned about if it constituted bullying. However, the humorist firmly refuted such an allegation.
He replied, “No, not at all.” If I were in a less powerful position, it would be considered bullying. But since I’m the one controlling the buzzer and distributing points, and I carry an air of authority, it’s actually acceptable. In fact, everything is going smoothly.
He said, “Not at all.” If my role were subordinate, it would be seen as bullying. However, given that I control the buzzer and assign points, and I exude a sense of authority, it’s perfectly fine. In truth, everything is running smoothly.
Brian also pointed out that a significant portion of it was influenced by fellow comedian and close friend, Ed Byrne. He believes this borrowing is permissible.
When asked if the show was encouraging young men to fight, he said, “I don’t believe we should be giving young men permission to tease or insult each other. We’re merely continuing a tradition that has been around for thousands of years – people making jokes at each other.
It was officially announced that Mock the Week would conclude in 2022, and at the time, Ó Briain playfully remarked: “Alright everyone, the United Kingdom has exhausted its supply of news.
As a devoted follower, I found myself utterly astonished by the escalating plot twists: worldwide pandemics, separation from Europe, temporary Prime Ministers popping up left and right. It just seemed unsustainable, as I went on to express.
Regrettably, we must announce that Dara and Hugh’s Academy for Baby Comedians is closing its doors. The news is already quite amusing, and it seems we can’t outdo it.
