Taskmaster premieres “deliciously daft” new series with brand-new contestants and tasks

Kicking off a fresh series tonight, September 11th, Taskmaster presented another round of ludicrous challenges.

In this latest installment, we have fresh competitors like Ania Magliano, Phil Ellis, Maisie Adam, Reece Shearsmith, and Sanjeev Bhaskar, all vying for the title in season 20’s competition.

To initiate the program, the hosts, Greg Davies and Alex Horne, inquired about the items brought by the competitors for this week’s topic, entitled ‘Soft Things’. This theme resulted in various items such as a seat cushion filled with cat hair, a masculine hat, and a prophetic raven being placed on the prize stand for this round.

In the initial challenge, every competitor walked into a room where Alex Horne, sporting a QR code on his suit, was present. The objective was to access a specific webpage by scanning the QR code with their phones, but Alex’s antics around the Taskmaster’s set made it more challenging.

1) In the end, Ania successfully decoded the information from Alex’s project and took first place in the task. Conversely, Sanjeev faced challenges turning off his phone from airplane mode, which resulted in him performing poorly in that round.

In the second challenge, competitors aimed to roll a ball towards the center of a target, and whoever was closest would triumph in that round. Ania and Reece innovatively established a ‘safety zone’ using trash bins, while Phil attempted to hit the bullseye by marking the path with gaffer tape. However, it was Maisie who prevailed as the victor of this second task.

In the third round, the competitors moved to the caravan, enclosed a space resembling a kitchen with curtains, and were tasked with making Alex believe they were acting in an unsavory manner. Simultaneously, they were evaluated based on the charm of their subsequent revelation.

Ania opted to scoop whipped cream and sugar from a bowl with her hands, Maisie prepared a mixed fruit salad, Phil stuck his feet into gravy and then ate cereal from a bowl. Meanwhile, Reece played a horn into a miniature duck model, and Sanjeev made funny sounds resembling raspberries at a mask of a human head.

1. Opted to scoop instead of decided to eat – using a more natural way of saying that Ania chose to consume the whipped cream and sugar with her hands.
2. Prepared a mixed fruit salad instead of made a fruit cocktail – a more descriptive phrase that better conveys what Maisie was doing.
3. Stuck his feet into gravy instead of dipped his feet into gravy – using a more informal verb to make the sentence sound more natural and easy to read.
4. Played a horn into a miniature duck model instead of blew through a horn into a model duck – using a more descriptive phrase that better conveys what Reece was doing with the horn.
5. Made funny sounds resembling raspberries at a mask of a human head – a clearer and more descriptive way of saying what Sanjeev did with the ‘baby’ mask.

In the final round, the competitors were instructed to remain on a specific location and aim to stay as near to that spot by the completion of the activity as feasible.

Despite being anticipated to be a simple process, the contestants found themselves in an unusual situation, where they needed to stand still by marching on the spot, fixating their gaze on their faces, and taking large strides without moving from their position. This proved challenging, as Maisie nearly toppled off the stage.

In this week’s installment, Maisie Adam emerged victorious, while Sanjeev ended up in last position. The early episodes of the fresh season have already garnered acclaim for their promising beginning.

A spectator commented on X: “Given my expectation that I’d enjoy the series due to Reece and Maise, I’m finding myself enjoying it far beyond what I had expected! The entire ensemble is fantastic thus far.

Additional comment: “It’s just as delightfully absurd as always. I’m already fond of each of the five competitors.

Meanwhile, a third person said: “One task in and I’m already obsessed with this cast #taskmaster.”

The TV show Taskmaster can be found on Channel Four every Thursday, starting at 9pm. Additionally, it’s available on YouTube at 10pm British Summer Time, not just in the UK but globally as well.
