Raúl Castillo is joining Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan in Season 3 of *The Walking Dead: Dead City*. He’ll be a regular cast member, playing a new character named Luis. He’s joined by fellow newcomers to *The Walking Dead* Universe, Jimmi Simpson and Aimee Garcia, as reported by *Deadline*. Before this, Castillo was known for his role as Cliff Broward in the HBO crime drama *Task*.
Filming for the third season of *Dead City* started in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 23rd, just three months after the second season ended. AMC also officially announced that the show would continue with additional episodes, and Seth Hoffman would be the new showrunner.
I’m really excited to return to ‘The Walking Dead’ universe and help create another great season for this amazing franchise. It’s a privilege to continue Maggie and Negan’s story in ‘Dead City.’ I’m looking forward to working with Lauren, Jeffrey, and Scott Gimple – they’re fantastic collaborators, and together we’ll bring this story to life.
Dan McDermott, head of AMC Networks and AMC Studios, expressed his excitement about Hoffman leading this season of the show. He noted the season will introduce new enemies and partnerships while further exploring the complicated dynamic between Maggie and Negan.
What’s to Come for Maggie and Negan in ‘Dead City’ Season 3

AMC
The second season ended with a huge cliffhanger, leaving viewers anxiously wondering what would happen next. Maggie shockingly stabbed Negan, resolving a long-standing conflict, and the episode concluded with her and Perlie preparing for a major battle against the approaching New Babylon army in Manhattan.
Lauren Cohan hinted in a June interview with Collider that the complex dynamic between her character, Maggie, and Negan might finally reach a clear resolution in the show’s third season.
It’s not exactly a truce, but both sides are exhausted after fighting, so I’m hoping they reach an agreement that allows for some kind of peaceful coexistence. That would open up new possibilities for the story, because they’ve pushed things to the extreme, breaking all previous expectations. This creates a chance to completely upend what we and the characters thought was possible, and that’s what I’m aiming for next.
Cohan shared that Season 2 hinted at a possible reconciliation between her character and her son, Hershel (Logan Kim), suggesting their difficult relationship might be improving.
Maggie’s journey is about learning and growth. Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen her perspective narrow due to past trauma and her fear of losing the one person she has left. These difficult moments, while painful, often mark the start of a new chapter, which I find hopeful despite everything else going on.
A premiere date for Season 3 has yet to be announced.
