Task Finale Wastes Lilli Kay’s Yellowstone Star Power

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the final episode of Task! The show Task added Lilli Kay, known for her role in Yellowstone, very late in the season, and unfortunately didn’t fully utilize her talent or her character’s potential. Kay previously gained recognition for her work in Netflix’s Your Honor and her role as Clara Brewer in season 5 of Yellowstone. Still early in a promising career, her appearance in Task, though brief, was memorable and continues to build her momentum.

Kay played Frankie Grasso’s sister in the HBO series Task. Her character immediately made Fabien Frankel’s Anthony Grasso more relatable, as he had begun to appear as a villain. We learned that despite his actions, Grasso still had a loving family, with a sister who saw the good in him. Sadly, Kay’s time on Task was short-lived.

Lilli Kay Didn’t Get Nearly Enough Screen Time In Task’s Finale

Despite limited screen time in Task, Kay quickly established a believable connection between Frankie and Grasso. Their dynamic felt like a typical, playful sibling relationship, full of teasing. This quickly changed, however, as Grasso revealed Frankie’s troubling past and his intention to take responsibility for his actions.

Frankie reassured her brother, telling him with deep sincerity that she knew his true character, no matter what she’d been told. This deeply affected Grasso, and Kay’s acting heightened the already strong emotional impact of the scene, leaving viewers uncertain whether Frankie’s words would convince Grasso to reconsider his decision to confess.

That’s everything we learned from Kay in Task. While Grasso ultimately made the right choice, it’s unclear if that fully makes up for his past actions. Kay’s involvement could have strengthened the ending; it would have been impactful to see her interact with Grasso in the hospital or even talk to Tom. Her viewpoint could have added more depth to the show’s ideas about morality and forgiveness.

Why Grasso’s Sister Was Only Introduced In Task’s Final Episode

Considering Kay’s strong work in shows like Your Honor and Yellowstone, it’s unexpected her character in Task didn’t appear earlier. Similarly, the finale could have been more powerful with a few extra scenes, and showing Grasso’s family life could have deepened his character. This would have made his moral choices more complex and added to the suspense of the thriller.

Brad Ingelsby, the show’s creator, probably intentionally held back on developing Kay’s character, Frankie, to maximize the impact of his role later on. While his connection with Lizzie made him somewhat relatable, it didn’t stop us from hating him when it became clear he was working with the Dark Hearts. We only truly saw who Grasso was at the very end, and that made a strong impression. It’s just unfortunate that this meant we didn’t get to see as much of Kay’s character.
