'Tangled' to get live-action remake from 'The Greatest Showman' Director

As a long-time Disney enthusiast who grew up watching these magical tales, I must say I’m thrilled to see “Tangled” getting a live-action treatment! With Michael Gracey at the helm and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson penning the script, this reimagining promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. The success of “The Greatest Showman” and the witty humor in “Thor: Love and Thunder” have me optimistic about what’s to come.

And at last, Tangled has seen the greenlight…for a live-action remake.

Disney has begun working on a new version of the successful 2010 animated movie. The director of the popular musical film, “The Greatest Showman,” Michael Gracey, is being considered for this project. Additionally, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote the screenplay for “Thor: Love and Thunder,” will be responsible for the script, according to Variety’s reports.

Casting has yet to be announced.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that Tangled revisits the timeless tale from the Brothers Grimm, about Rapunzel – a princess who found herself confined in a tower. However, the arrival of Flynn Rider, an outlaw with a heart of gold, turned her tranquil life upside down, leading her on an exhilarating journey that reshaped her destiny. The talented Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy lend their voices to this enchanting production.

Disney’s 50th animated movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios earned an impressive $592.5 million at the box office. Yet, it was also the costliest animated film ever made, boasting a budget of $260 million. This significant investment allowed for the creation of its revolutionary animation, which blended computer-generated effects with non-photorealistic techniques.

Moreover, it achieved noteworthy acclaim with an enthusiastic following, a nomination for the Academy Award in the category of “I See the Light” song, the short film titled “Tangled Ever After” in 2012, and the Disney Channel series “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure” that premiered in 2017.

In various settings outside of the Tangled universe, Rapunzel herself has made guest appearances. This includes the series Sofia the First, the film Ralph Breaks the Internet, and the special 100th anniversary production called Once Upon a Studio.

One of the beloved Disney animated films, “Tangled”, is now slated for a live-action adaptation. Additionally, projects in development include “Bambi” with Sarah Polley initially attached, “The Aristocats” under the direction of Questlove, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” which still has Josh Gad’s involvement despite delays, “Robin Hood” with Carlos López Estrada as director, and “Hercules” that was originally set to be produced by the Russo brothers.

At the moment, we have scheduled the following movies: “Mufasa: The Lion King” for the weekend of December 20, “Snow White” set for March, “Lilo & Stitch” in May, and “Moana” for the year 2026.
