Matt Zukowski is back on the dating scene – and it’s not going well.
A Love Island Australia star, age 30, recently shared a difficult experience. He and his wife, Tammy Hembrow, separated in June after only seven months of marriage.
Matt posted a TikTok video of himself smiling in a car with a caption encouraging someone to message a girl he likes, saying, ‘Message her, she likes you!’
He then showed his messenger screen where he had approached a woman with a simple, ‘Hello!’
The unnamed woman replied curtly, ‘Goodbye!’
In his caption alongside the video, Matt added: ‘Yeah, sums it up to be honest.’
The reality TV personality recently shared how he’s grown since splitting from social media influencer Tammy, who is 31 years old.
Matt recently told Anna McEvoy on their podcast, Where’s Your Head At?, that he’s feeling much happier and healthier mentally compared to where he was a year ago.
I was so relieved when the truth finally came out. It all started when Anna, being the amazing friend she is, simply asked Matt, ‘Are you okay?’ just before R U OK? Day. It was such a small question, but it opened everything up.
Responding, Matt admitted to being a completely different person.
‘Yes, I would like to say that I actually am okay,’ he said.
Many people have commented on how different I’ve become. When I listened to recordings of myself from about a year ago, it was startling – I realized how emotionally numb I was at the time.
‘I’m completely different now. I can be myself again.’
Anna agreed with Matt’s self-assessment, saying that he seemed ‘lighter’ recently.
He then recalled a story that helped illustrate his point.
He recalled driving by a shop recently and wondering when he’d last been inside.
You know, it just popped back into my memory – I suddenly remembered being on the phone in that spot, chatting with a friend. It was a pretty specific conversation, and that’s what triggered the recollection.
It’s crazy to think back – exactly a year ago today, I was a completely different person. Seriously, the guy on that phone call? That feels like someone else entirely compared to who I am now, driving past that shop. It’s like night and day, honestly. I’ve changed so much.
Matt and Tammy got engaged in December 2023 after just three months of dating.
The couple got married in November 2024, but rumors about a possible breakup started appearing almost a year before that.
In June, the pair announced they were divorcing after seven months of marriage.
Tammy later moved on with AFL star Bailey Smith.
Matt has admitted he was upset to see Tammy start dating someone else so soon after their split. He’s also suggested that he was the one who ended the relationship, although some people thought Tammy initiated the break-up.
