Tamara Lawrance and Joe Dempsie’s detective drama gets first look

As a gamer with a keen eye for captivating narratives and a soft spot for well-crafted characters, I am utterly intrigued by the upcoming detective drama, “Get Millie Black”. The unique blend of crime noir, vibrant Kingston settings, and an ensemble of diverse talents is already setting my anticipation ablaze.

Channel 4 unveiled the initial photographs of the detective series titled “Get Millie Black” starring actors Tamara Lawrance and Joe Dempsie.

As a gaming enthusiast here, I’ve just stumbled upon an exciting new find: it’s my first adventure into the world of screenwriting, and it’s penned by Marlon James – the brilliant mind behind the Booker Prize. This captivating five-part journey is being hailed as a gritty, unyielding, and pulse-pounding crime noir saga, setting my anticipation soaring!

The production is scheduled for release next year on Channel 4, in collaboration with HBO. It boasts “The Silent Twins'” Lawrance and the talented Dempsie from “Game of Thrones” as part of its principal cast.

A summary for the show: “Get Millie Black” offers an intimate and genuine portrayal of Kingston unlike any other screen representation. The narrative is told from the unique viewpoint of Millie (Tamara Lawrance) – a young woman born on the island, raised in London, who identifies herself as both British and Jamaican, yet finds herself not fully belonging to either location.

This tale is filled with a cast of memorable characters, such as the spirited ‘gully queen’ Hibiscus, portrayed by Chyna McQueen; her partner on the Jamaican Police Force, Curtis (played by Gershwyn Eustache Jnr), who struggles to hide his romantic life from his colleagues; the cunning Scotland Yard Inspector Luke Holborn, played by Joe Dempsie; and Dorothy ‘Patra’ Smith, who takes on roles as both go-go-club owner and underworld businesswoman, known as Hit Girl.

Kindred star Lawrance appeared on our screens in 2022 film The Silent Twins as Jennifer Gibbons.

In simpler terms, the movie is a portrayal of the lives of twin sisters Jennifer and June Gibbons, played by Letitia Wright. They had an unusual bond where they could only communicate with each other. Following a series of crimes, they were both confined to Broadmoor Hospital for 13 years.

In the upcoming BBC drama titled “Mr Loverman“, Lawrance will be featured alongside actors like Lennie James and Sharon D Clarke. This drama is based on the critically acclaimed 2013 novel of the same name by Bernardine Evaristo, which was a best-seller.

As a dedicated gamer speaking for myself, here’s how I would put it: “I, the gamer, am thrilled to share that Skins’ talented actor Dempsie is all set to return to our screens in the upcoming second season of Showtrial, taking on the role of DI Miles Southgate.

Alongside the cast of the five-part drama are actors such as Adeel Akhtar from “Fool Me Once,” Michael Socha known for his role in “This Is England,” and Nathalie Armin, who starred in “The Batman.

The series unfolds around an incident where a climate advocate is mysteriously abandoned after a hit-and-run accident, allegedly implicating a current police officer in his dying declaration.
