
The popular novel Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro is becoming a movie! Director Taika Waititi is bringing the dystopian sci-fi story to the big screen later this year. Sony Pictures announced the release date and showed the first trailer at CinemaCon, revealing Jenna Ortega playing a robot designed to be a companion for lonely children. It’s similar to the movie M3GAN, but without the scary, murderous side.
At CinemaCon, Sony Pictures showed a first look at the upcoming film, Klara and the Sun. The footage offered a glimpse into the movie’s futuristic and somewhat bleak world, based on the popular novel. The story centers around “Artificial Friends” – robots designed to be companions for children. We’re introduced to Klara, played by Jenna Ortega, who wonders if she’ll be a good fit for the child she’s assigned to. That child is Josie (Mia Tharia), but Josie’s mother, Chrissie (Amy Adams), isn’t immediately convinced, questioning, “Is this the one? She seems tired.”
