Architect Tadao Ando has revealed blueprints for the upcoming National Museum of Uzbekistan, marking his initial project within Central Asia. Expected to debut in March 2028, this architectural marvel showcases Ando’s grand minimalism while paying homage to Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage.
The outside features grand, curved archways that invite people into a tranquil inner yard enclosed by transparent walkways. Combining round and square structures creates an atmosphere reminiscent of Ando’s signature design language, offering a lively and engaging spatial environment.
Working together with the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF), the museum aims to become Uzbekistan’s premier cultural hub, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the country’s rich history. Located in the heart of Tashkent, this architectural masterpiece serves as a serene public area and a site for community events. With the inclusion of a public library and lecture hall, its purpose extends beyond art displays and museum activities, inviting broader engagement from the public.
Atelier Brückner from Germany is teaming up with Ando to create the design and concept for an exhibition that offers a captivating experience to its visitors. This partnership will cover both permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as artist residencies and educational programs. These initiatives are planned not just for international tourists but also for young audiences within the country.
