T1’s DOFGK falls short in debut match, fans remain supportive
In the LCK Cup, T1’s fresh lineup suffered their first defeat. Yet, the audience swiftly expressed encouraging words and thoughtful critiques.
The 2025 League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK) Cup carried on with its thrilling second day on January 16th. This day saw the long-awaited debut of T1’s revamped team. Known as DOFGK, which stands for Choi “Doran”, Mun “Oner”, Lee “Faker”, Lee “Gumayusi”, and Ryu “Keria”, they squared off against DK in the second match of the day.
Enthusiasts of LoL esports, particularly supporters of T1 and Doran, have been eagerly waiting for this game as it marks the first appearance of the five-time World Championship team without their previous top laner, Choi “Zeus” Woo-je, who unexpectedly moved to HLE in November 2024. Unfortunately, T1’s highly anticipated debut ended with a defeat.
T1 lost against DK in the 2025 LCK Cup debut match
In the revised 2025 LCK Cup setup, Team T1 was assigned Group Baron, while Team DK contested Group Elder. This matchup stood out due to its emphasis on the top lane, where T1’s recent signee Doran and DK’s Jeon “Siwoo” Si-woo, a newcomer, squared off against each other. For Siwoo, this was his debut in a Tier 1 tournament, having been elevated from the DK Challengers team – much like DRX’s Trần “LazyFeel” Bảo Minh, who became the first non-Korean player in the LCK.
In the initial three-game contest, DK demonstrated superiority right from the start. The first match concluded swiftly within 24 minutes, ending emphatically with a 14-2 kill tally for DK, and an enormous 10,000 gold advantage over their opponents.
In contrast, Team 1 took charge in the second match, prolonging it beyond 31 minutes. They delivered an impressive display with a 17-7 kill advantage and amassing a significant gold lead of 15,000. Team 1 dominated the objectives, capturing four Drakes, one Atakhan, one Elder Dragon, and one Baron, while only giving up one Rift Herald to DK.
In a highly charged match-point game lasting approximately 34 minutes, T1 put up a valiant fight. Regardless, DK managed to wrap up the series with an impressive 18-9 kill tally, thus clinching the win and gaining a vital point for Group Elder in the 2025 LCK Cup standings. This victory boosted Group Elder’s lead over Group Baron to 3-1 in the group stage.
T1 fans remain supportive despite an early setback
Despite T1’s LCK Cup debut match resulting in a defeat in 2025, fans have shown an outpouring of support. In fact, many supporters have playfully adopted the team’s red jacket uniform as their own by flooding comments and live streams with tomato emojis. This has transformed the symbol into a humorous fan identity that adds a lighthearted touch to the team’s performances.
On social media site X, numerous motivational posts were shared by fans, totaling more than 204 messages at the time this story was published. The supporters encouraged the players, highlighting that the tournament is just beginning and advising them to learn from errors and work on strengthening team dynamics instead.
Nevertheless, viewers weren’t hesitant to voice their opinions about crucial instances in the show. Topics of debate included Oner’s overlooked smites and Keria’s unused ultimate abilities, which were viewed as preventable mistakes that might have altered the final result.
The process of selecting a champion was met with critique, as spectators advised Oner not to choose AP jungle champions and Gumayusi to avoid immobile ADCs in subsequent games. Doran, the latest recruit for the team, received both positive and negative comments. Although viewers appreciated his potential, they noted his cautious approach to play and reluctance to take significant risks, particularly when facing off against DK’s recently promoted Siwoo.
Regardless of the outcome, T1 supporters maintain a positive outlook, considering the defeat as a stepping stone instead of a setback. With numerous matches still to play in the 2025 LCK Cup, they are hopeful that the team will adapt swiftly, perfect their tactics, and emerge stronger in future games.
