T1 Pop: The new chatting app with players that fans didn’t ask for

The latest offering, Pop, aims to facilitate dialogues between players and their enthusiasts who are part of T1 community. Unfortunately, it didn’t gain much favor with the general public.

It appears that Service T1 recently introduced a new feature enabling fans to engage directly with their professional League of Legends players. Yet, the response has not been quite as enthusiastic as they anticipated.

What is T1 Pop?

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but be thrilled about T1 Pop, the incredible platform that brings me face-to-face with my idols from the T1 League of Legends team: Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong and Ryu “Keria” Min-seok. It’s like having a direct line to my heroes!

Fans can interact directly with professional players by purchasing a subscription, which could be the regular T1 membership or a standard plan. The cost ranges from $4.25 for one player up to $17.25 for five players.

Fans wishing to get in touch with the pro players need to obtain a subscription, either the T1 membership or a regular plan. Prices start at $4.25 for one player and reach $17.25 when you purchase access to five players.

In South Korea, it’s quite common for fans to interact with celebrities, particularly K-pop stars, bands, and actors.

When is T1 Pop available?

Starting January 8th, at noon Korean Standard Time (which is equivalent to 5 a.m. Pacific Time), you can only access Pop through the b.stage mobile app.

Hate train and fan reactions

Over the past few months, there’s been an escalating wave of hostility directed towards T1 and its players, particularly Gumayusi and Faker. A user on X mentioned that the organization hasn’t taken any steps to address or resolve this problem. Furthermore, numerous fans have highlighted instances of DDoS attacks disrupting the team’s streaming activities and live events.

Beyond just affecting the mental health and overall wellness of the gamers, this situation has impaired their capacity to engage with fans via streaming and generate income – both personally and for the organization. This is due to partnerships and commitments. It’s crucial to recognize that gaming serves not only as a profession for these players, but it also provides an escape from daily life. Ideally, it should offer enjoyment rather than causing disruption and stress.

On T1’s recent post about X, fans have been voicing their disapproval over the company’s decision to launch a chat app while the primary issue is still unattended. Instead, they are urging the company to prioritize the welfare of the players.

Anticipating criticism

The T1 Pop service foresaw potential negative responses from fans and prepared answers for potential harmful messages sent via the app. In a Q&A session, they emphasized that player protection is their top concern, promising legal action against malicious or defamatory content. Furthermore, they stated that all messages are consistently monitored to prevent issues from arising.

Mental health

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice how the grind of constant competition and hectic schedules can take a toll on one’s mental wellbeing – even for professional gamers like Faker. His recent outburst before being calmed down by teammates served as a stark reminder that we all need to prioritize our mental health.

The fans of T1, especially T1 Pop, have raised concerns about exploiting players’ fame without giving them the time and space they deserve. It’s crucial to remember that these talented individuals are more than just gaming machines; they’re people who require rest, relaxation, and personal time just like everyone else.

Through several discussions with the players, it was agreed that they could utilize the app freely according to their own preferences.
