T1 Faker at the MSI 2025: “Despite losing to Gen.G twice, I believe we are capable of defeating them.”
Following a tough defeat against Gen.G, T1 took some time to evaluate their tactics, share thoughts about the MSI 2025 journey, and plan for future competitions.
The 2025 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has come to an end, with Gen.G being declared champions for the second time following their exhilarating win against T1. Spectators worldwide were treated to one of the finest series in the event’s history, as the Grand Finals set a new record by attracting over three million viewers – the highest number ever recorded for an MSI Final.
Following a challenging defeat against Gen.G for the second time in the competition, T1 took the opportunity to contemplate their path, critical choices, and insights gained during the post-game interview session. Below you’ll find the corresponding English questions.
Improving performance ahead of the next split and the Esports World Cup 2025 preparation
In TheScore esports: This T1 squad has been steadily improving throughout this season. After two nail-bitingly tight matches against Gen.G, I’m eager to hear your thoughts on what strategies T1 might adopt to strengthen their gameplay and eventually outperform them in the Summer Split or at League of Legends Worlds.
In the course of this MSI, I strongly feel that our team has been performing exceptionally well, making today’s loss all the more disappointing. Although we’ve fallen twice to Gen.G, I am confident in our ability to beat them. I believe it’s simply a matter of learning from our encounters with them.
Clearly, this moment is quite emotional for everyone on the team. But I can’t help but notice that Keria seems particularly somber. I’m wondering what thoughts are running through your mind at this very instant. Since we know players often reflect on aspects of the game, could there be a particular part of the game that stands out to you right now?
T1 Keria: Game-wise, I feel our greatest strength was being able to carry out our plans and strategies effectively. Looking ahead, it’s crucial that we begin preparing immediately for the EWC. So, my hope is that we can improve even more when we face Gen.G again.
Breaking down T1 draft choices and key decisions during the series at the MSI 2025
In Match 5, what are your thoughts on the distribution of power between the two drafted strategies, given that Gen.G’s composition seemed challenging to pull off effectively? Was there perhaps a strategic advantage for them even with the difficult draft?
T1 Tom (Coach): It seemed like our strategy was for Team 1 to dominate the game flow and keep it under control. By occupying the space, we aimed to prevent the opponents from launching immediate attacks against us. That was the approach we adopted.
In your game during the Upper Bracket final, Keria, you chose Pyke but unfortunately lost. Today, Gen.G also selected Pyke in a similar situation, yet they emerged victorious. Can you identify what made their Pyke performance superior today, perhaps it was the execution or strategic play?
T1 Keria: I think that Gen.G was able to execute the composition they chose for today.
T1’s international experience
Marc: I understand that at this moment, you’re feeling sadness, yet in truth, you’ve become one of the top second teams globally. Can you share how challenging it was for you to join the team, take over from Zeus, and consistently perform at such a high level?
Upon joining T1, I needed some time to get accustomed, particularly at the start of this season. However, by mid-season, I had acclimated quite well, which contributed significantly to our progression to MSI and reaching the finals. At the MSI tournament, I gained valuable insights, and although I feel a sense of regret, I believe I will improve soon.
To Faker: In international competitions, your gameplay seems to elevate compared to regional events. Can you explain what adjustments you make? Is it a shift in mentality, increased preparation, or perhaps the unique environment that brings out the best from Team T1 in global matches?
T1 Faker: It’s likely that there are several contributing factors, but I am confident that T1 has a substantial amount of international exposure. In terms of our domestic performances, I feel that when competing on an international stage, we manage to put together impressive combinations of all the strategies and tactics we have developed. That is why we have achieved such great success in international competitions.
