T1 CEO Joe Marsh announces Gumayusi’s return to T1 LoL starting roster
Fans can see Gumayusi play again, but there’s a caveat.
Enthusiasts of League of Legends have been expressing strong opinions about the state of the bottom lane in T1 this season. After two consecutive championship wins, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong was unexpectedly replaced by newcomer Sin “Smash” Geum-jae. This sudden shift has left fans of T1 LoL feeling confused, but T1 CEO Joe Marsh has stepped forward to explain the changes happening in the ADC position for the upcoming LCK season through the organization’s official channels.
Gumayusi returns, but Smash stays in T1 LoL roster
Joe Marsh’s statement was posted on official T1 social media accounts.
To begin with, I want to acknowledge that there’s been some disappointment among you all about our lack of communication on team roster adjustments and the potential shift to a six-man lineup,” Joe Marsh started off. He went on to explain that this silence wasn’t due to ignoring your concerns, but rather stemmed from internal deliberations aimed at finding the optimal course of action for the team.
In his statement, Joe Marsh affirmed that the initial six-player team setup will indeed materialize. He expressed full confidence in General Manager Jeong “Becker” Hoi-yoon, Head Coach Kim “KkOma” Jeong-gyun, and the rest of the coaching staff. After extensive discussions with them, he has asked for Gumayusi to be included in the starting lineup, implying that he will be part of the team when the regular season commences. This choice was not made hastily – as CEO, he emphasized, it is his duty to consider long-term implications and act in the best interests of T1.
How will the T1 LoL six-man roster work?
Gumayusi is set to kick off as our bot lane player, yet he and Smash will face off in training sessions and challenge one another all through the year. Eventually, the coaching team will assess which combination offers T1 the greatest edge for success in the future.
In the past, T1 had a practice of fielding a team with ten players in 2021, although they didn’t accomplish much that year, this approach ultimately led to them using the ZOFGK roster in subsequent seasons, which turned out to be highly successful.
Joe Marsh addresses talent and fans
He highly commended the performances of both Gumayusi and Smash. In fact, I am convinced that Gumayusi is capable of adapting and flourishing as a hyper-carry, much like he has done so in the past. What’s more crucial is my belief that he has earned another chance to demonstrate his skills as one of the world’s top bot laners.
According to Joe Marsh, we are quite optimistic about the development of Smash and think he possesses the ability to mature into a truly outstanding player.
Simultaneously, he spoke about the ongoing discussions among T1 supporters. He expressed that it’s saddening to witness discord within our community. He emphasized that our platforms are meant for celebrating all our players rather than fostering conflicts.
Although he admitted the organization’s errors, he also expressed a heartfelt apology to our faithful followers and associates. He requested their continued backing for our dedicated players who are working tirelessly to secure triumph for T1.
