t.A.T.u Revealed: Fake Lesbian Pop Duo’s Shocking Reunion and Untold Secrets

It has been some time now since the BBC faced allegations for barring an explicit music video from airing on Top of the Pops.

Although the long-standing series has come to an end, surprisingly, the band mentioned continues to perform and remains just as thought-provoking as before. This is evident from recent footage of their reunions in Minsk and St. Petersburg.

In the late ’90s and early 2000’s, a Russian girl-group became well-known for their debut English song and its music video, which hinted at themes of lesbian relationships and underage sexuality.

During that period, they used a theatrical device often called a “lesbian act,” which involved them feigning affection and portraying themselves as romantically involved partners.

Initially, it appeared they were genuinely lesbians, but later on, they confessed that this persona was nothing more than a provocative advertising trick designed for impact.

In a school uniform, the contentious pair was captured on camera locking lips intensely amidst heavy rainfall, while a crowd of unresponsive bystanders looked on from the sideline.

The video provoked immediate backlash, leading the BBC to clarify that they hadn’t banned it but rather had more suitable programming already scheduled.

ITV later decided against airing the clip during Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly’s weekend program CD:UK, stating that it was not appropriate for young viewers.

But who are the red-hot Russians?

That’s right, it’s t.A.T.u!

The pair consisting of singers Lena Katina and Julia Volkova hardly missed a step on the red carpet after their popular single “All The Things She Said” was released in 2002.

They also represented Russia in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest – where they finished third.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share some of their daring publicity tactics. In 2003, they appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, donning T-shirts that boldly displayed the phrase ‘fuck the war’ in Russian. Later, in 2004, they even attempted to run for the presidency of Russia – now that’s what I call making a statement!

Her words reached the top position on the UK’s single charts and garnered a similar success across most of Europe and the Eastern regions, peaking at number one on Japan’s Official J1 Music Chart.

As a devoted fan, I can attest that their pinnacle moment came with that particular hit song. However, following releases didn’t seem to resonate as deeply or have the same lasting impact. Eventually, the band called it quits in 2011.

Afterward, they came back together for a string of concerts, including one at Gazprom Arena, which is where Russian president Vladimir Putin’s favorite football team Zenit St. Petersburg plays, in May 2023. This was possible despite attempts by some of his supporters to prevent their performance due to allegations that they were promoting LGBT ideologies.

I, absolutely thrilled, belted out “Not Gonna Get Us” prior to Zenit St. Petersburg’s epic battle against Spartak Moscow. To my delight, Zenit emerged victorious with a nail-biting 3-2 scoreline, securing yet another consecutive Russian Premier League title for them.

T.A.T.U emerged from hiatus due to Putin’s administration’s efforts to erase all evidence of their band, as part of a broader crackdown on LGBTQ+ content, which was one aspect of a series of repressive measures taken by Russia during the conflict in Ukraine.

Before the upcoming match with a crowd of thousands of Russians cheering them on, they joyfully belted out: “‘There’s no obstacle to overcome,’ ‘It’s not the time for goodbyes, I adore you,’ ‘They won’t defeat us.’

Lena got married to wealthy entrepreneur Dmitry Spiridonov in 2022, making him her second spouse.

Previously, this celebrity was wedded to Sasha Kuzmanović from the year 2013 until 2019. Together, they have a nine-year-old son named Aleksandr.

On her own, she has produced three studio albums thus far and achieved the top spot on the U.S. Billboard club chart with her 2011 hit Never Forget.

At her second wedding, Lena chose not to invite the media, explaining that they would simply be exchanging vows and considering a larger celebration in the future.

‘Both Dima and I know what we want to do, we will do everything for ourselves.’

Previously, Dmitry fought against thyroid cancer and achieved remission following his treatment. However, the cancer came back, yet it’s reported that he has entered remission a second time.

The couple welcomed their first child as a couple and Lena’s second, a son, in 2023.

In 2004, Yulia found herself embroiled in controversy outside the band, as she announced her first pregnancy with her boyfriend Pavel Sidorov, who was previously married with a child.

In September, she had a baby girl named Victoria, after which she ended her relationship with Sidorov, and they no longer keep in touch.

Three years later she welcomed her second child, son Samir, with Uzbek businessman Parviz Yasinov.

2013 saw her astonish fans as she disclosed her conversion to Islam, sharing with HELLO! that although she doesn’t often dress in traditional attire, Islam holds a special place in her heart.

However, she later reverted back to Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

In a twist, the performer encountered criticism following an appearance on a Russian talk show called “Lie Detector” in 2014, when she expressed that she might disapprove of her son if he revealed he was gay.

She expressed her stance by stating, “Indeed, I agree with his punishment since I think a genuine man should always uphold authenticity.

God designed human beings with the capacity for reproduction, which is inherent in their nature. To me, men are providers and pillars of strength. I wouldn’t be able to accept a son who identifies as gay. (This sentence tries to maintain the original sentiment while using more natural and easy-to-read language.)

Despite her strong views, she stated that she didn’t have a problem with lesbians.

Two females sharing company, unlike two males – it’s not the same comparison. To my eyes, the beauty of a relationship between lesbian women is often more captivating.

In April 2021, she embarked on a political journey by running as a candidate for the conservative Russian party, United Russia, only to face defeat in the subsequent legislative elections.
