Sylvester Stallone’s Forgotten Thriller Is Coming to Peacock
The movie “Backtrace” presents Sylvester Stallone in a more serious light, drawing comparisons to his more intense roles. For those eager to witness Stallone spearhead an exceptional cast, this crime mystery is definitely worth watching.
Starting May 1st, I’ll be diving into the thrilling world of “Backtrace.” Starring Ryan Guzman, Christopher McDonald, and Matthew Modine, this 2018 crime drama has me hooked! In this film, we follow Detective Sykes (played by Sylvester Stallone) as he delves into the events surrounding a botched bank heist. One of the culprits, played by Modine, miraculously survived but is left with amnesia, making Sykes’ investigation all the more challenging.
“Backtrace” is a captivating mystery that keeps audiences guessing with its unpredictable twists and turns. The real shock comes in the final reveal! Stallone delivers an exceptional dramatic performance that truly elevates the film. Can’t wait to see it!
Critics and viewers panned the film Backtrace with harsh criticism, yet it garnered praise for Sylvester Stallone’s acting performance. In 2018, Backtrace was one of three movies featuring Stallone, alongside Escape Plan 2 (released directly to video) and Creed II, which enjoyed a successful run at the box office. Stallone raised the stakes in 2019 by appearing in four films, including a Rambo sequel. Backtrace demonstrated Stallone’s skills as a serious actor, reminiscent of his roles in Lock Up and Cop Land. Fans seeking to witness Stallone excelling in a dramatic role should definitely check out Backtrace.
‘My Ego Got Blown Out Of Proportion’
As a passionate cinephile, let me tell you, Sylvester Stallone wasn’t just a charismatic face on the silver screen; he was also a creative powerhouse behind it. He not only produced and wrote, but also directed and choreographed stunts for his movies, such as Rocky, First Blood, and The Expendables. In an interview back in 2012, Stallone admitted that the success of Rocky set a challenging standard for his subsequent films to live up to. However, he didn’t crumble under the pressure; instead, he adapted, just like a seasoned boxer taking hits. As he put it, “After Rocky, I was almost predestined to fail in the eyes of the media.” And with that, his ego grew exponentially.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it like this: “I once had an unexpected run-in with a fan that opened my eyes. They’d ask questions about my roles or the movies I was in, and as an actor, I found myself blurting out my thoughts without really knowing what I was saying. It wasn’t until I was on The Dinah [Shore] Show, sharing my usual stream of thoughts, that a seemingly ordinary man approached me. His eyes shimmered with intensity. He simply asked, ‘Why are you doing this?’ Then he walked away. That moment struck a chord within me. I realized the impact my words had and understood that I needed to reconsider my actions.
The movie “Backtrace” reportedly cost $6 million to produce but only managed to earn $490,000 during its brief theatrical release. It later earned another $718,000 when it was released on home video in February 2019. Despite some previous failures, Stallone learned from the success of “Rocky” to handle both career peaks and valleys. “I’d hit rock bottom before, but I’d become too arrogant about it. In the year 1972, my total earnings were just $1,400. Now, I was a big name. I think I’ve learned to keep things in perspective now.
Backtrace starts streaming on Peacock on May 1.
