Sylvester Stallone Admits He Was ‘Nervous’ Working With Samuel L. Jackson on Tulsa King

Sylvester Stallone has been talking about shooting the latest installments of Taylor Sheridan’s , and shared that a new actor joining the show initially made him feel ‘nervous.’ The third season of the popular crime series began airing on September 21.

When discussing the show with People, Stallone shared his first thoughts upon hearing about the direction of Tulsa King for Season 3. He said, “When I heard that was gonna happen, I thought, ‘This is going to be a tough challenge, a real fight,’” comparing the situation to one of his famous movies, Rocky. “It felt like two boxers facing off, wondering who would make the first move. You get anxious because you’re up against strong competition.”

Fortunately, meeting him in person wasn’t as scary as I’d imagined. “As soon as he came in, he said, ‘Hey, man, what’s up?’ and I thought, ‘Okay, here we go.’ But we’re on good terms now,” Stallone explained. “We’re working really well together now. We could even create a show called Tulsa King and Buddy. That’s how well we connected.”

Jackson will be a guest star in Season 3 of Tulsa King, playing the character Russell Lee Washington. This appearance is intended to set up a potential spin-off series for him. Although both Stallone and Jackson have long and successful acting careers, Tulsa King will be the first time they’ve shared the screen together. However, Stallone shared that they’ve been good friends for many years.

Stallone explained that he and his colleague lived just a hundred yards apart for nearly 30 years. However, they rarely connected personally. “We were always busy with work,” he said, “so we only really ran into each other at events like premieres or openings at places like Planet Hollywood.”

Tulsa King first appeared on Paramount+ in 2022. The show stars Sylvester Stallone as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a member of the Mafia who is let out of prison in New York and immediately travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma to build a new criminal operation. This series is Stallone’s first time as the main actor in a scripted TV show, and he’s also one of the executive producers.

From the beginning, Tulsa King has consistently been a major success for Paramount+, proving to be one of the streaming service’s most popular shows outside of the world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. The series has earned consistently positive reviews, with all three seasons receiving a “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average approval score of 88%.

Stallone Reflects on His Motivation & Legacy in Acting

Sylvester Stallone might have been a little anxious finding out he’d be acting alongside Samuel L. Jackson, but both performers have incredibly successful careers and are considered giants in the film industry. Even though Stallone has received many awards, including a Golden Globe, he shared that he’s still often amazed by things. He said, “That journey – I wish I had been more aware,” when looking back on his experiences.

It’s just about getting through it, day by day. I was so focused on what *I* needed to do that I didn’t really notice the turmoil around me. I kept telling myself, ‘I have to do this,’ knowing it would be incredibly difficult. I figured I might not succeed, but I refused to have any regrets. I needed to give it absolutely everything, 100%, not just 99%, he continued. Later, looking back on my life, I want to be able to say, ‘I did everything I could.’ I wanted to leave everything on the field. Ultimately, that’s what I want to be remembered for-that I never gave up.
