Sydney Sweeney’s Gundam Movie Gets Massive Production Update

Legendary Entertainment is creating a live-action film inspired by the well-known Japanese sci-fi series. Sydney Sweeney, the star of the movie, recently shared exciting news about its progress that fans have been waiting for.

In a recent interview, Sweeney confirmed that the Gundam movie is still being actively developed at Legendary, despite the lack of public updates. She stated that progress is being made “every single day.” Jim Mickle, the showrunner of Sweet Tooth, is still set to direct the film, which is a collaboration between Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks. He will also produce the movie alongside Linda Moran through their production company, Nightshade, and is working from his own screenplay.

The live-action Gundam movie has been in development at Legendary since 2018, when it was first revealed at Anime Expo. Brian K. Vaughan, known for his work on comic series like Y: The Last Man and Saga, joined the project in 2019 to write the screenplay and serve as an executive producer. While things were quiet for a couple of years, Netflix became involved in April 2021, and Jordan Vogt-Roberts was set to direct. However, by October 2024, both Vogt-Roberts and Vaughan had left the project, leading to Mickle being brought on as the new director and writer.
