Sydney Sweeney’s Brother Is Out There Joking About ‘Them Good Jeans’ In His Latest Post

Sydney Sweeney has been quite active in advertising and promotions for several years, yet none have garnered as much attention as her American Eagle campaign. This particular ad sparked controversy due to accusations that the brand was endorsing eugenics with its “genes” slogan, which some found offensive. The situation escalated when videos of Sweeney in her princess ballgown at the Americana premiere emerged, with a few passersby yelling at her. However, her brother seems to be taking the entire incident lightly, treating it as a humorous matter.

Sweeney’s younger brother Trent recently promoted to staff sergeant and shared the certificate of his appointment onto his Instagram Stories. While a cool movie, it’s not the type of the thing that would probably be covered by mainstream news, except for the fact he captioned the post, “It’s them good jeans,” capturing the attention of the Internet.

The advertisement spotlighting Ms. Sweeney in denim jeans and a top, which cleverly plays on the words “jeans” and “genes” by implying she has good taste in fashion (jeans) and genetics (genes), is phrased as “Ms. Sweeney possesses ‘good jeans’ in this ad.” In the original ad, the word “genes” is crossed out and changed to “jeans.

The billboard went viral, and American Eagle later said the “jeans/genes” wordplay was always intended to sell jeans and not intended to be a commentary on eugenics. Early posts in the campaign were tagged with #SydneySweeneyhasgreatjeans, but in more recent days the hashtag seems to have been dropped by the brand.

Even though the AE’s reply didn’t seem to put an end to it, further discussions have continued, possibly prompting Trent to engage in playful banter (or “trolling”) on his sister’s behalf this week.

It’s unclear if this is significant to Ms. Sweeney, but she has been independently building her career, deciding on the image she wants to project, and even producing her own projects. She recently sold soap made from her bathwater as a marketing stunt, which is far more unconventional than what American Eagle attempted.

In the midst of an unexpected uproar, she’s been diligently filming for Euphoria Season 3. She briefly stepped away to spend some quality time with a secretive companion in Idaho. More recently, she was seen enjoying karaoke with her co-stars Hunter Schafer and Maude Apatow. Her upcoming movie, Americana, is set to debut on the 2025 movie schedule next week, specifically on August 15th.
