Viewers of HBO’s Euphoria were surprised by the latest episode on Sunday night, and many expressed feeling overwhelmed by its explicit and unusual content.
In the sixth episode of the Sam Levinson drama, titled “Stand Still And See,” Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) continued working on OnlyFans. The episode featured her taking revealing photos in a bikini at a strip club and a daring scene where she handled a python while almost naked.
But she was put in a difficult position when she unexpectedly received an offer to appear in a TV show called LA Nights.
The show’s demanding creator, portrayed by Sharon Stone, told Cassie she had to choose between keeping her OnlyFans account and getting the job.
Cassie said yes to the deal at first, but she quickly felt conflicted and called her husband, Nate (Jacob Elordi), hoping he could help her sort through her feelings.
I was absolutely horrified when he didn’t answer his phone! After what Naz did to him – chopping off his finger and a toe because of a debt – it was just too much. I mean, it completely changed things for Cassie. She was so shaken up that she actually deleted her profile from that explicit site. It was a really powerful moment, and honestly, I understood why she did it.
Fans were left baffled by the episode, with one asking, ‘wtf is this euphoria plot even.’
‘So tired,’ another wrote.
‘The snake around Cassie??’
‘What do you mean there’s a deadly snake that cassie takes pictures with?’
‘That was such a weird episode,’ another added.
The episode begins with Cassie’s manager, Maddy (Alexa Demie), who used to be her best friend, taking her to the Silver Slipper strip club. There, they plan to take provocative photos with performers Magick (singer Rosalia) and Kitty (Anna Van Patten).
She gushes that the place is ‘so photogenic’ as Cassie poses in a pink bikini on top of the bar.
She later struggles while holding a big white python and wearing nothing but a beige thong.
During the episode, Cassie attempts an audition for LA Nights, but struggles with her lines as she’s haunted by memories of the attack on Nate during their wedding night.
As Cassie improvises with her scene partner, the showrunner, Patty Stone, is impressed with their interaction and requests a meeting with Cassie.
Cassie’s sister, Lexi (played by Maude Apatow), is Patty’s assistant and reluctantly helped her with the audition. Now, Lexi just wants to be done with Patty as quickly as possible.
She brings up how Cassie has an OnlyFans where she offers JOI (Jerk Off Instructions).
Patty remains intrigued and describes Cassie’s actions as a modern take on feminism, believing Lexi intentionally gave her an audition to help her escape sex work.
Cassie then not only gets the job, but Patty tells her they will expand her role.
Lexi later told her friend what happened, and her friend jokingly suggested getting rid of Cassie’s character in the story.
Cassie received a strange package delivered by FedEx. Inside, a note simply said, ‘Answer the phone.’ Beneath the note, she found her husband’s severed ring finger.
Nate, visibly enraged, is shown destroying the protected wildflowers that have stopped his building project and caused him financial hardship, while yelling hateful slurs.
The man who previously amputated his toe and finger returned, and it seemed he was about to remove another part of his body.
After a dramatic finale where Rue Bennett was shown buried in dirt, Zendaya’s character ultimately survives.
Her boss, Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who owned a strip club, grew suspicious of her and eventually threatened her life. He even chased her on horseback, swinging a polo mallet as if to attack.
The latest episode showed him dismounting from his horse, and going to swing at Rue.
I can’t believe it! Rue… Rue actually did it. After everything she went through with the DEA, after they hassled her, she turned on Faye! She told Alamo – Alamo! – that Faye was the one who helped with the robbery. My sweet Faye! I just… I’m devastated. How could she betray her like that? It’s just awful, absolutely awful.
Rue used to smuggle drugs for Laurie (Martha Kelly), who runs a competing operation to Alamo. Laurie’s right-hand person, Wayne (Toby Wallace), is currently in a relationship with Faye.
While she’s still buried, Rue calls Faye and tries to convince her to let them rob Laurie.
Faye reveals she’s in love with Wayne and excitedly shares that they plan to have children. However, she also shockingly admits Wayne tattooed a swastika on her.
‘Are you a Nazi now?’ Rue asks her.
‘Not… really,’ Faye replies.
Faye eventually relents, and Rue promises her that she can keep the money they rob.
Alamo and Laurie unexpectedly meet and make an agreement: Alamo will smuggle 80 kilograms of fentanyl across the border. Unbeknownst to them, DEA agents are listening to the entire conversation through a listening device planted on Rue’s phone.
Rue felt a sense of relief when the DEA agents assured her they were close to a resolution and would likely view her cooperation positively.
Rue reconnects with her former girlfriend, Jules, who is now in a relationship with a married man and receiving financial support from him.
Even though she’s going through a difficult time, Rue shares that she’s dreaming of having children and wants to start her days with someone she loves.
Jules believes she’s in a dream world, but Rue sharply responds, telling her she’s insignificant and confined.
She explained that her wealthy benefactor expects her to simply wait and create art until he returns and initiates a sexual encounter.
Jules then slaps Rue so hard that she falls. Jules’s painting also ends up crashing on top of her.
She tells her that Ellis will be there soon and that she better get ‘the f**k out of my painting.’
Rue proceeds to leave in tears.
Rue eventually creates a key to open Laurie’s safe. Afterward, while at church, she receives a phone call from her mother.
She proceeds to tell her mom that she just figured out God exists and ‘so does redemption.’
‘If there’s redemption then there’s salvation,’ she says.
Rue hands Alamo the key, and he gives her a dead rat for his snake. After that, she learns she needs to break into Laurie’s safe.
Rue was driving when she almost got into a terrible car accident. Shaken up, she got out of the car and noticed a bush nearby was on fire.
The seemingly biblical manifestation brings the episode to an end.
Season two of Euphoria returns with new episodes every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max at 9 PM Eastern Time, culminating in a final episode on May 31st.
