Sydney Sweeney is experiencing a positive turn in her career after facing recent professional challenges and unsuccessful films.
After unexpectedly becoming a big success in theaters, a sequel to the 28-year-old’s film, The Housemaid, has been approved.
According to Variety, both Sweeney and director Paul Feig will be back for the next film.
The Housemaid’s Secret is the second book in a popular trilogy by Freida McFadden.
Michele Morrone is confirmed to return for the next movie, but it’s currently unknown if Amanda Seyfried will be joining him.
The movie The Housemaid has quickly become a major success, earning $133 million in less than three weeks despite only costing $35 million to make.
Critics generally liked the film, calling it a fun return to the exciting, suspenseful thrillers popular in the 80s and 90s.
The film’s success has provided a much-needed boost to Sweeney’s status in Hollywood.
The actress, known for her breakout role in the popular HBO series Euphoria, has starred in a string of unsuccessful films and shows recently.
Some of her less successful films include the Marvel movie Madame Web, the Ron Howard thriller Eden, and the sports biopic Christy.
She also received significant criticism last year for appearing in a controversial advertisement for American Eagle jeans.
The ad featured the tagline ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,’ a pun on ‘great genes’.
The phrase, combined with the actor’s appearance – blue eyes and blonde hair – caused a strong reaction online when the ad came out last July. Many people criticized it, claiming it promoted ideas of eugenics and white supremacy.

For months, the actress didn’t respond to the criticism she was receiving. She finally spoke out in December, releasing a heartfelt statement.
‘I was honestly surprised by the reaction,’ she told the publication.
I participated because I genuinely like the jeans and admire the brand. However, I don’t agree with some of the opinions expressed alongside the campaign. I want to clarify that a lot of the reasons and labels people are assigning to me are inaccurate, she stated.
People who know me understand I always try to unite others. I strongly dislike hate and things that create division.
Sweeney explained why she hadn’t spoken out sooner, even though the issue had been widely discussed in the media for months.
‘In the past my stance has been to never respond to negative or positive press but recently I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it,’ she explained.
‘So I hope this new year brings more focus on what connects us instead of what divides us.’
In addition to the controversy surrounding American Eagle, Bridget Sweeney faced criticism from those against Trump when it became known she was a registered Republican in Florida in 2024.
Her relationship with music executive Scooter Braun has also raised eyebrows.
People first noticed Sweeney with Braun at the Italian wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in June. This was shortly after she ended her seven-year engagement with Jonathan Davino.
Some pop music fans dislike Braun because of a public disagreement with Taylor Swift. The conflict began when he acquired the original recordings of her first six albums.
The business owner, a strong supporter of Israel, has faced criticism from those who support Palestinians due to his continued backing of Israel during the current conflict in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Sweeney will next be seen in the long-awaited third season of Euphoria.
There’s talk that she might star in a future live-action movie based on the popular Japanese anime series, Gundam.
