A radio personality in Sydney shared a disturbing story about her housemate being attacked because of their sexual orientation.
Loren Barry, who co-hosts the 2DayFM show The Hot Hits with Nic & Loren, used Instagram over the weekend to express her frustration about a recent incident.
Loren shared a photo of her housemate and his partner holding hands, explaining that the couple had reported hateful slurs directed at them to the police.
She started her post by recounting how a group of young men drove by her friends while yelling hateful slurs at them twice. She specifically quoted them as shouting, ‘F you, you fing fots’ from their car as her friends were walking.
We’ve reported this incident to the police. In 2025, expressing homophobic views is unacceptable and frankly, reveals a lot about the person expressing them.
‘Even if they don’t catch you, we won’t be sitting back and letting this s*** pass anymore.

Loren expressed strong anger on Monday night’s show, telling her co-host, Nic Kelly, that a weekend breakfast in Sydney had unexpectedly left her deeply upset.
She said they had a wonderful breakfast with her roommate and a friend, and the incident happened on their walk back from the café.
You’d be hard-pressed to find two kinder people – they were just out for a walk, not bothering anyone.
Loren was busy dealing with her dog when she thought she heard a fight happening close by. She quickly realized, however, that the angry words were actually aimed at her friends.
‘When we looked up, they turned the corner and screamed it again,’ she said.
‘And when I say screamed it, I mean with this vicious tone in their voice. It was so disgusting.’
Loren said that the shock of the incident caused her to ‘burst into tears’.
She said she’d never been so deeply disturbed by something she’d witnessed.
Loren explained that she became even more upset when one of the people affected told her, ‘Don’t cry, this happens all the time.’

‘It made me even more upset because this is 2025,’ she said.
She explained that she’s always lived in liberal-minded areas, both in Melbourne and now in Sydney, and intentionally chooses to be around people with similar values.
‘It absolutely rocked me because in this day and age are we really still doing this?’
I was so relieved to hear Loren say the police really took the incident seriously after she filed her report. She even told me they went to check on the people involved today, which just made me feel so much better knowing they’re taking action.
You know, hearing that story really hit home for me. I’ve actually been in a similar situation myself – I’ve been targeted like that before, and it’s definitely something I understand all too well.
‘It completely rocks you,’ he said.
Loren concluded the segment by offering reassurance and support to anyone who might have gone through similar experiences, letting them know they are loved.
Nic and Loren posted a clip of the segment on Instagram, and their followers responded with lots of positive feedback.

‘Talking about this on mainstream radio is massive. Props to you both,’ one follower commented.
Someone else commented, praising the action as incredible but unnecessary, and expressing support for those who are defending what they believe in. They also included clapping hand emojis.
Summing up the sentiment of many, a third agreed that it was sad to see such behaviour in 2025.
Oh my gosh, Loren, you’re just amazing! Seeing you talk about this meant the world to me, because sadly, there are still so many people out there with awful, outdated views about the LGBTQ+ community. It just breaks my heart, but you speaking up? That’s everything. You’re a beautiful soul and I’m so glad you used your voice!
Honestly, in today’s world – it’s 2025, after all – we’ve moved past accepting that kind of behavior. What really makes a difference is what you did: supporting someone to speak up. That’s exactly what our communities need more of – genuine allies who actively help build a better world for everyone.
