Sydney Chandler Declares Comparing Her Alien Character to Ripley Is Impossible

Expressing in a more conversational and accessible manner: It’s no exaggeration to say that the new TV show, “Alien: Earth“, is generating immense excitement this summer. Ever since its announcement, everyone’s been eagerly awaiting Noah Hawley‘s creation to see where it goes. From what we’ve seen so far, it seems destined for success, but when fans start comparing Sydney Chandler‘s character Wendy to Sigorney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley, she laughs it off, saying it’s an “impossible” comparison to make.

In the upcoming series Alien: Earth, Chandler portrays a robot endowed with human consciousness (referred to as Hybrids). Recently, she and Hawley shared insights about this eagerly awaited show with Entertainment Weekly. The story unfolds two years prior to the events in Ridley Scott’s 1979 original, and according to Hawley, the narrative has a distinct female influence that’s difficult to overlook.

The Alien series seems to carry a strong feminine vibe, from Ripley’s character in the movies to the fact that the aliens themselves are matriarchal with a queen. It gives off an impression of being a show heavily influenced by women. Sydney’s character is grappling with her place in this world and, at its core, ponders whether humanity truly deserves to continue existing.

He isn’t mistaken, as the presence of Weaver in four of the movie series undeniably strengthened the Alien franchise into a matriarchal tale. Chandler aims to carry on this narrative in Alien: Earth. However, the 29-year-old realizes that when it’s time for fans (and herself) to draw Ripley comparisons, it’s not a battle worth fighting.

It’s beyond me to measure myself against Ripley, such a comparison feels unattainable. Yet, I fervently wish the audience adores Wendy as deeply as I cherish her… She remains my most beloved role I’ve had the privilege to portray.
