Swiftplay games now have a hard cap of 36 minutes
League of Legends Swiftplay games are about to get even swift-er.
In the League of Legends game, Swiftplay was designed for a faster approach to playing on Summoner’s Rift. However, Riot Games believes it could be swifter still. The latest League of Legends update, version 1.25.3, introduces Sudden Death to Swiftplay – find out more about it here.
Sudden Death in Swiftplay
In the latest update for League of Legends, version S1.25.3, Swiftplay will now feature a mechanic called Sudden Death. This adjustment aims to enhance the game’s flow and better embody the essence of Swiftplay.
As stated by Riot, their goal is to prevent games from lasting more than 35 minutes and to decrease the overall average game duration, which stands at 24 minutes and 45 seconds presently.
As a gamer, I’m making adjustments to the game flow since players have been telling me they feel overwhelmed with tasks at every moment. It seems like there’s simply too much going on simultaneously. So, I’m tweaking things to ensure a smoother gaming experience.
Sudden Death explained
If you’re accustomed to playing Clash, you’ll recognize the Sudden Death rule. In Swiftplay, here’s how it will work:
[Sudden Death mechanic in Swiftplay]
1. The game will enter a sudden-death overtime period when no player can achieve victory within the allotted time.
2. During this overtime, players will take turns making moves to try and outmaneuver each other.
3. If the score remains tied after a predetermined number of overtime rounds, the game will end in a draw.
4. However, if one player wins a round during overtime, they will be declared the winner of the match.
5. This mechanic adds excitement and tension to the game, ensuring that no match ends without a clear victor.
- At 25 minutes, Structures lose 35% of its current Armor and Magic Resist every minute. This stacks and applies to all turrets on the map.
- At 27 minutes, the “3 minutes until Sudden Death!” announcement will occur.
- At 30 minutes. “Sudden Death has started!” announcement will occur, and all targetable structures lose 3.3% of its max HP every 2 seconds.
- At 36 minutes, the game will end with the Nexus burning down.
