Sweetpea on Starz: Everything to know about the upcoming dark comedy-drama
As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of series, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem with Starz’s upcoming offering, “Sweetpea.” With my extensive background in navigating through dark comedy-drama worlds (think Red Dead Redemption 2 meets Bojack Horseman), this show seems tailored just for me.
I’m really looking forward to the upcoming series on Starz – it’s called Sweetpea and I simply can’t wait! This dark comedy-drama is right up my alley, being a fan of such genre blends. The lead role is played by Ella Purnell, who recently shone in Prime Video’s Fallout.
If you’re equally thrilled about Sweetpea like me, I’m happy to divulge all the details we have thus far. This includes when and where it can be watched, the cast, and other interesting facts!
The series titled “Sweetpea” will debut on Starz and is adapted from CJ Skuse’s 2017 book of the same name. The narrative revolves around Rhiannon Lewis (Purnell), a young woman who finds her life monotonous and feels unappreciated. In crowds, among friends, and at work, she often goes unnoticed, overlooked for promotions. Her relationship, if it can even be called that, is with a man who isn’t committed. To make matters worse, her father’s health is deteriorating, leaving Rhiannon feeling more isolated than ever before.
One evening, Rhiannon finds herself at her breaking point and unleashes emotions she hadn’t known she possessed, tapping into a hidden reservoir of anger. It goes without saying that Rhiannon now harbors a powerful secret she doubts she can conceal. The ensemble cast for Sweetpea includes Nicole Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, and Leah Harvey, among others.

For approximately three years, this project has been under development, with its existence becoming public knowledge in the year 2020. Given the pandemic that broke out during that period, progress had to temporarily halt. It wasn’t until 2023 that Ella Purnell was revealed as the main character. The book is being adapted by Kirstie Swain and will span eight episodes on Starz.
Regarding when Sweetpea will debut, Starz hasn’t specified yet. Although fans were anticipating a release date hint in the teaser, it only confirmed that Sweetpea will air in October. At least we now know the series is arriving this year and perfectly timed for the autumn season!
