Sweetpea episode 2 had its slow moments, but is still an interesting watch (Review)

As a long-time fan of gripping dramas and someone who’s seen their fair share of dark narratives, I must say that Sweetpea on Starz is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The second episode, “This Sort of Thing Needs Some Feminine Energy?”, was another nail-biting installment that had me hooked from the start.

It’s time for the latest installment of Sweetpea on Starz, and this one was another delightful watch. I believe the premiere laid a strong foundation and effectively introduced the narrative. Now, we witness the repercussions of Rhiannon’s initial act of violence. Let’s dive into our review of Sweetpea episode 2 titled “A Feminine Touch is Needed for This Kind of Situation?” Here are some potential spoilers ahead.

The following day finds Rhiannon tidying up the aftermath of her first murder, Ryan. Earlier that night, a man she had previously slept with appears, seeking to invest in or discuss business regarding her father’s transformation. However, she firmly declares it’s not an opportune moment. Consequently, she shuts the door decisively on him and emphatically asks him to leave immediately.

Instead, it turns out that Rhiannon’s concerns have escalated dramatically because the police have discovered Ryan’s lifeless body. Initially, this episode appeared as if it would be yet another instance of her boss disregarding her, but Rhiannon skillfully maneuvers the situation to conceal the murder. Her boss consents, but AJ accompanies her instead, the only individual who seems to genuinely recognize her. Despite being overlooked for the position, Rhiannon has decided she’s had enough of staying silent and is determined to demonstrate her journalistic abilities.

She seems to be approaching things in an unwise manner, considering that she is the one who took Ryan’s life and is now planning to speak with his parents. However, it is refreshing to see her taking action after being overlooked for so long. Of course, excluding the aspect of the murder. It’s not surprising to learn that Ryan was far from an upstanding individual. There was a restraining order against him due to his persistence in harassing his former employer even after they terminated him.

Rhiannon was curious and wanted to delve deeper into Ryan’s actions towards a colleague named Dave, who he reportedly bullied. Her own words suggest she believes that if Ryan indeed acted as a bully, he may have deserved the consequences he faced. However, it’s crucial to remember that taking justice into one’s hands is not appropriate. When Rhiannon uncovers the truth about Ryan’s behavior towards Dave, her empathy certainly increases. This revelation likely solidified her opinion regarding Ryan and made her believe that perhaps his actions warranted such a response, even though it’s important to remember that justice should be administered through proper channels.

In an unexpected twist, Rhiannon is invited by her supervisor for the first time to socialize with her colleagues after work – something she eagerly accepts. Not only that, but she receives praise as her boss comments on her performance, saying “you did well today.” However, it’s important to note that this seemingly happy situation raises concerns, as Rhiannon might be developing a dangerous mindset that could lead to sinister behavior. Yet, one can also empathize with her, as she finally experiences validation.

In the concluding scenes of episode 2 of Sweetpea, an intriguing twist unfolds as the rude hospital patient, who was present during Rhiannon’s father’s final moments, happens to be at the same bar. Enraged by his past insensitivity towards her pleas for help, Rhiannon confronts him outside and takes revenge by repeating the method she used to stab Ryan in the neck. Rhiannon harbors a deep resentment toward this man, believing that if he hadn’t distracted the nurse, her father might still be alive.

Well, you won’t be shocked to hear that Rhiannon seems to have her sights locked on Julia next. Frankly, I can’t stand Julia – she’s just not an easy character to root for. Now, let me clarify that I’m not endorsing Rhiannon’s actions in any way. But Julia does make it hard to empathize with her, that’s for sure.
