The online gambling company didn’t meet its obligations to protect players, but the penalty was lowered because it fully cooperated with the investigation. Sweden’s gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, explained that a larger fine was considered due to serious and long-standing issues with how the company handled responsible gaming.
Kanon Gaming Limited has received a warning and will be fined due to shortcomings in how they protect players. The court sided with the Swedish Gambling Authority‘s evaluation of these issues.

What obligation did Kanon Gaming fail to fulfill?
iGaming companies have a responsibility to protect their players. This means they need to take steps to quickly help anyone who might be developing a gambling problem.
In June, Sweden’s gambling regulator also criticized Kanon Gaming for not properly verifying players’ ages. Specifically, the company didn’t differentiate between players over 18 and those over 24. Swedish authorities see this as a serious problem because younger adults are at a higher risk of developing gambling addictions.
Spelinspektionen noted that Kanon Gaming promptly fixed the issues they raised and took appropriate action. This cooperation helped speed up the review process and resulted in a reduced fine.
Other examples of sanctions for failing duty of care
Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has been cracking down on this law, especially to shield younger players. They also fined Newera Frozen PTE Limited and Aprodi Limited for advertising gambling content on streaming sites like YouTube and Twitch using videos created by users. This practice is worrying because it makes it harder to tell the difference between gaming and gambling.
Gamevio Ltd, Bigskin Trading, Samilland.co, and Santeda International are also impacted by these changes.
