Susanna Reid speaks up for Kate Middleton’s recent hair change, countering negative comments from harsh critics about the Duchess of Cambridge’s more subtle appearance.
As a devoted admirer, I was taken aback last week when Kate, aged 43, unveiled her stunning new bronde hairstyle. It’s quite a daring change from her familiar chestnut locks that we’ve grown to love.
I, as one of Kate’s loyal followers, found myself pleasantly surprised last week by her bold transformation into a bronde hairdo, a departure from the chestnut tresses she’s long been known for.
Interestingly enough, just like Susanna, aged 54, recently adopted a bronde style (a mix between brunette and blonde). During Monday’s episode of Lorraine, she shared that the reason behind her choice to go lighter was because it seemed more ‘complementary’ for her ‘maturing skin’.
Reflecting on Kate’s recent change in appearance, Susanna pondered: “It seems the Duchess of Cambridge still flaunts her exceptionally long, voluminous hair. Many have suggested that perhaps it’s high time for a slightly shorter hairstyle.
‘But again, it’s her distinctive look and the change that she’s made is to go blonder.’
Afterward, Lorraine chimed in with a question: “She appears stunningly beautiful – folks are wondering if she uses hairpieces, similar to the ones you simply clip in? I mean, what about it?

In strong affirmation with Kate, Susanna reminisced about a time when she decided to get a bob cut in 2023. During that period, Cher advised her in an interview that she ought to let her hair grow again.
After being advised by Cher that I needed longer hair, Susanna admitted that at first, she resorted to using hair extensions to achieve the desired style.
‘They give your hair the most amazing thick texture. I turned back time and went long!’
In the same week, Susanna and Kate chose to sport bronde hairstyles, yet the Good Morning Britain host emphasized that her decision was not swayed by the royal figure.
As Lorraine noticed the striking resemblance between the two powerful pair’s latest styles, Susanne chuckled, commenting, “It seems as if I copied the style of Princess Diana and found it appealing.
As time passes and I’ve added a few more candles to my birthday cake, I’ve found myself drawn towards lighter shades in my hairdo. It seems that these lighter tones are just a little gentler on the aged complexion, offering a soft and rejuvenating effect.
Looking through photos of Susanna’s hair transformations, she admitted, “I haven’t sported my natural hair color for quite some time now!
Initially, my hair was extremely dark brown, almost black. When I first began working at ITV, it stood out as a rich chestnut hue, making quite the contrast compared to my original shade!
‘I just find that that shade now on my skin isn’t flattering – blonder is a little bit kinder.’

Kate’s bold new bronde look has sent the internet into meltdown in recent days.
Following some harsh online criticism towards the royals’ new appearance, Sam McKnight, a well-known fashion stylist, and a former hairdresser of Princess Diana, aged 70, defended her on Instagram by releasing a supportive statement.
Responding to his critics, he expressed to his supporters that he was deeply taken aback, appalled, disappointed, and revolted by the response he received.
He wrote that a woman’s hair holds great significance for her, serving as not just an accessory but also a shield, boosting her self-confidence, and symbolizing far more than meets the eye.
He went on to express his disbelief at the harsh, empathy-lacking comments made primarily by other women, directed towards a young woman who, due to her marriage and chosen role, finds herself in a vulnerable position and is bravely facing public scrutiny.
It seems likely that she prefers to stay out of the limelight. In a remarkable and humble manner, she’s been selflessly advocating for our country, demonstrating the subtle influence we continue to hold on the global stage.
Discussing Kate’s personal health experiences, which she shared publicly in March 2024, he went on to say: ‘Everyone copes uniquely with cancer, yet it transforms the lives of all.’
‘So FFS LEAVE HER LONE. SHAME ON YOU.’
