Superman’s Twist Might Be Setting up DCU’s Brainiac

Instead of Superman’s surprising revelation potentially being a twist, it could instead be laying the groundwork for the introduction of the DC Universe’s character, Brainiac.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are constructing significant elements within their DC Universe. As of yet, the exact nature of these elements and where this journey is headed remains unclear; however, it’s reasonable to assume that a formidable threat will eventually materialize, necessitating the Justice League’s involvement, wouldn’t you agree?

In a plausible twist, it could be expected that Superman might have an element hinting at this danger lurking – something subtly suggested in the film but not explicitly spoken, allowing viewers to revisit and say, ‘Ah, this was foreshadowed right from the start.’ This intricate plot point could potentially be part of Gunn’s movie, and it may revolve around Brainiac.

Superman’s big twist is that his father Jor-El wanted him to conquer Earth

In the initial part of the Superman film, Clark Kent firmly believes that his Kryptonian parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, sent him to Earth with a mission to safeguard humanity. This belief brings Kal-El a sense of peace, making him frequently retreat to the Fortress of Solitude where he can privately listen to their message.

It’s only when Lex Luthor and The Engineer penetrate the Fortress of Solitude and decipher the second part of the message that Superman comprehends his true mission on Earth: not to safeguard it, but to dominate it. His parents had instructed him to rule over humanity and amass as many wives as necessary to rejuvenate the Kryptonian race.

In this significant shift in the narrative, it’s worth noting that while comic books have occasionally reimagined Kal-El’s background, the classic, widely recognized account portrays Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van as caring individuals who hold humanity in high esteem.

Over the past week, there’s been a lot of discussion on social media regarding the event and its associated legends following the release of Superman.

The twist might be a setup for Brainiac to be the DCU’s first big villain

It’s possible that we should accept Gunn’s comments at their surface meaning – he has expressed his intention to modify aspects of the Superman character when it suits the storyline, without compromising the character’s essence. This might be an indication of Gunn wanting to personalize the Superman character in this way.

Perhaps, instead of what was initially assumed; it might be more accurate to suggest that the message Superman received could have been tampered with by an antagonist such as Brainiac. In the comics, Brainiac is one of Superman’s most formidable and malicious adversaries. Although some stories attribute Krypton’s destruction to him, even in the main DC Comics narrative, he maintains strong connections to Superman’s home planet due to his possession of a miniaturized version of Kandor, the capital city on Krypton.

Brainiac is often portrayed as a highly intelligent artificial being or half-machine entity, which gives him the ability to alter communications. It’s worth noting that DC Comics previously explored a similar narrative in the second season of Superman’s Adventures, so this concept wouldn’t be entirely surprising.

If it indeed transpires this way, it would mean fans might get to witness a live-action Brainiac in a film for the first time. This movie doesn’t necessarily have to be Superman 2; instead, Gunn could be laying the groundwork for Brainiac as the initial major DC Universe antagonist. Supergirl might continue to hint at his upcoming appearance, and eventually, he would make his Earth debut in a future project, causing widespread chaos.
