Superman Theory Reveals Ultraman’s True Identity

As a movie critic, I found myself enthralled by the latest addition to the DC universe – “Ultraman.” This film presents a fresh antagonist, who intriguingly joins Superman’s roster of adversaries. Over the course of the film, new evidence has surfaced, lending credence to theories regarding Ultraman’s true identity.

Initially, we only catch glimpses of this formidable foe through masked appearances in footage, but now his enigmatic persona is finally unveiled.

The latest Superman trailer unveiled Ultraman without his mask, revealing a green-tinted visage that hints at the identity beneath the disguise: It might be Martian Manhunter. Although he’s not usually depicted as a villain, if Ultraman is indeed J’onn J’onzz, it would align well with the character’s established traits, the movie’s potential themes, and pave the way for the DCU’s future storylines.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d say it’s fascinating how Ultraman’s abilities in the footage seem strikingly similar to Martian Manhunter’s usual skillset: superhuman strength, flight, and heat vision – powers that Superman also boasts. Just this alignment makes J’onn a formidable adversary for Superman, but if the movie were to incorporate some of Martian Manhunter’s other comic book abilities like becoming intangible and shape-shifting, it would put Kal-El in a tough position, with an uphill battle on his hands.

Not only do they share powers, but there are other striking resemblances between J’onn and Kal-El. Martian Manhunter, like Superman, is an outsider, being the last of his world, Mars, much like Superman who hails from the last inhabitants of Krypton. This makes J’onn an ideal counterpart for Superman, as they can intimately comprehend each other due to their shared experiences of being aliens on Earth.

J’onn’s past fits perfectly with Gunn’s knack for creating complex, tragic characters, similar to how he portrays the unconventional lives of the Guardians.

It’s likely that Martian Manhunter’s character is usually portrayed as a superhero, which might be the reason Superman and Ultraman find common ground with him. This interplay could provide an opportunity for J’onn to have a transformative journey by the film’s end, potentially opening doors for Martian Manhunter’s continued role in the DCU. This could also establish key characters and teams that might play significant roles within the larger universe.

The highly anticipated movie, Superman, is scheduled for release in theaters on July 11. This film marks the return of Superman to the silver screen under the guidance of director James Gunn, who’s rebooting the franchise. The main cast includes David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor. Additionally, viewers will be introduced to a variety of other DC characters such as Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific in this film.

How Martian Manhunter Could Kickstart the DCU’s Justice League

Presenting Martian Manhunter offers numerous possibilities for future superhero adventures within the DC Universe. One immediate opportunity is joining the Justice League, a team that J’onn Jonzz has been part of since its creation. Since other Justice League members have already been established in the DCU, it wouldn’t be too unexpected to introduce another key member of the League.

It’s worth mentioning that a portion of the movie ‘Superman’ was shot in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is interesting because it’s also where Union Terminal is located. Some fans have pointed out that this structure inspired the Hall of Justice in the comics, suggesting that the headquarters and possibly another member of the Justice League might be making an early appearance.

An intriguing, less conventional path for the Justice League team that Gunn’s DCU appears to be preparing is the lesser-known Justice League International. This group offers a more humorous take on the legendary superhero squad, a vibe that seems to resonate with the tone of Superman‘s Justice Gang, which has already started to lean in this direction. In the comics, Martian Manhunter and characters like Guy Gardner and Maxwell Lord were members of Justice League International, and these characters have been confirmed to appear in Superman.

Additionally, characters like Booster Gold and Mr. Miracle, who will star in a mature-rated animated series, were also part of the lineup. Consequently, these potential newcomers could be strong contenders to join the superhero team. It’s possible that Lord’s Justice League might develop into an international team reminiscent of its comic book counterpart, with Manhunter serving as the unifying factor among the group.

J’onn J’onnz’s Martian roots could significantly influence the plotlines in the DC Universe. Despite being portrayed as the last survivor from Mars, it becomes clear that fragments of his home planet persist. Many aspects of his Green Martian lineage have been erased, yet factions of the malevolent White Martians continue to thrive.

In both the second seasons of Superman and Peacemaker, there have been scenes featuring creatures that viewers think could be White Martians. This suggests that their appearance might not be too distant. The introduction of these villains could pave the way for Miss Martian, Martian Manhunter’s niece, to join the action. This would align well with the upcoming Teen Titans movie.
