Superman Spin-off TV Show Moves Forward, New Details Announced

One of the Superman spin-off TV shows has taken a major step forward.

The new Superman movie from Warner Bros. and DC Studios is scheduled to come out in July 2025. James Gunn directed the film, which stars David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. A sequel, currently titled Man of Tomorrow, is also being planned.

After the movie Superman came out, reports suggested that James Gunn and DC Studios were thinking about creating TV shows focusing on characters from the film, like Mister Terrific or Jimmy Olsen.

What is the update on the Superman TV spin-off show?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spin-off show focusing on Jimmy Olsen is officially happening. Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda – the creators of the Netflix series American Vandal – are writing and executive producing the show, and will also be its showrunners.

Skyler Gisondo will likely return as Jimmy Olsen in the new spin-off series, now known as DC Crime, according to Variety.

The show will focus on reporter Olsen and other journalists from the Daily Planet (excluding Lois Lane and Clark Kent) as they investigate cases involving villains with superpowers. A major villain for the first season will be Gorilla Grodd, a highly intelligent, evil ape who leads the hidden city of Gorilla City in Africa. Grodd is a long-time enemy of the Flash, originally appearing in a comic book in 1959 and created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino.

Gunn and Peter Safran will be executive producers on the project, working with Perrault and Yacenda. Gialyin Vaisman will provide oversight for DC.

There’s no release date yet for DC Crime, the new Superman spin-off series. You can currently watch Superman on HBO Max, and a new installment, Man of Tomorrow, is planned for 2027.
