This week, the long-awaited appearance of Superman on the big screen has been met with widespread praise, earning the title of “an ideal superhero film” from initial reviews.
This film serves as the inaugural production for the freshly revamped DC Universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Notably, it is James Gunn who pens and directs the upcoming cinematic rendition of Superman.
After the initial screening yesterday, those fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Superman have flooded social media with their immediate impressions. (Detailed reviews will be released later today.)
According to Fandango’s Erik Davis, James Gunn’s version of Superman is an ideal superhero film and an excellent kickoff for the new DC Studios. Watching it was similar to tearing into a comic book and indulging in its vibrant, unruly creativity.
Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier highly commended: “Superman takes flight. It’s an exhilarating rollercoaster ride, filled with humor, action, and heartfelt moments. The spectacle is abundant, the optimism is unrestrained, and there’s a quirky unpredictability that binds everything seamlessly, even when there are minor flaws.
In Perri Nemiroff’s words for Collider, “The movie is filled with thrilling action sequences, clever humor, and moments of levity, but what truly makes it special is Superman’s humanity – his dedication to doing good and striving to improve the world.

As a gamer, I can’t help but be blown away by David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman. He doesn’t just play the role; he truly shines as the Man of Steel. Plus, his depiction of Clark, the small-town dork hiding in a hunk’s body, is spot-on, making him feel relatable and authentic. This new take on Superman seems to be drawing comparisons to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, which is a high compliment indeed!
In a new adaptation, Superman witnesses Corenswet assume the legendary DC character, where Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult steps into Lex Luthor’s shoes. The ensemble further includes Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Wendell Pierce, and other talented actors as well.
Additionally, another prominent actor in the ensemble might not have been intended for early disclosure; that’s likely a surprise intended for post-release.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share the news that none other than Bradley Cooper is joining the cast of Superman! It seems he’s stepping into the role of Jor-El in a special cameo appearance. This unexpected addition was apparently made as a gesture of goodwill towards the filmmaker, making it even more exciting for us fans!

Before the film’s premiere, Gunn likewise refuted rumors about Superman‘s running time being merely 122 minutes, instead verifying that its actual runtime is slightly extended to 129 minutes.
It appears that this Superman film is one of the briefest ones yet, but judging by the initial responses, it seems like it will not disappoint you.
Superman is released in cinemas on 11 July.
