Superman: James Gunn Has a Good Reason Why DCU Logo Won’t Change

James Gunn has commented on whether or not the DCU opening logo will always feature Superman.

In December 2024, Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe launched with an animated series called Creature Commandos. A few months later, in July 2025, a live-action Superman series debuted. Recently, Peacemaker Season 2 started on HBO Max and will release new episodes every Thursday until it concludes on October 9, 2025.

What did James Gunn say about the DCU opening logo?

Over the course of DC Universe’s existence, there has been much speculation among fans about whether the opening logo will consistently portray Clark Kent/Superman or if it might evolve over time to showcase various other DC Comics characters.

In a post on Threads, Gunn referred to this by stating that he intends to continue portraying the character as a symbol similar to the iconic MGM Lion, emphasizing his continued role as Superman.

In a different phrasing, the question was raised regarding whether the DC Elseworlds films and series might incorporate characters from Matt Reeves’ gritty Batman saga, rather than continuing to focus on Superman.

Gunn said that there will be changes made to that logo, but they won’t be anything “major.”

After the release of Peacemaker Season 2, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ DCU carries on in 2026 with a Lanterns TV series featuring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock, and the James Watkins Clayface film headlined by Tom Rhys Harries. Additionally, it was recently disclosed that Gunn’s sequel to Superman, now known as Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled for a theater release in July 2027.

In addition to Wonder Woman, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing directed by James Mangold, Sgt. Rock, and several other DCU films are currently being developed. Regarding television shows, Booster Gold, Waller, Paradise Lost, Creature Commandos Season 2, and various additional titles have been announced but haven’t yet been given a release date.
