Superman fans all saying he’s already been UPSTAGED by another character in FIRST trailer from James Gunn film
As a lifestyle expert who has spent countless hours watching superhero films and understanding the emotional connection they create with their audience, I can confidently say that the new Superman trailer has left me utterly enchanted, but not by the Man of Steel himself – it’s Krypto, the four-legged hero, who has truly stolen the show.
The first trailer for the hotly anticipated new Superman film has been released.
However, it was not just Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, who stole the show; instead, a surprising four-legged actor named Krypto, a dog, managed to outshine him.
In the trailer, the endearing dog saves the day by helping its owner who finds themselves stuck in a frozen landscape.
Following his fall from the heavens, the wounded superhero lets out a whistle, which triggers his canine companion to dash through the snow at high speed and reach him.
‘Krypto, home. Take me home,’ Superman manages.
The tiny dog bites onto his owner’s red cape and effortlessly pulls him through the snow.
The pooch was a stand-out for various viewers, with one saying the dog was the ‘only reason’ they planned on heading to the theatres.
“This fan tweeted, ‘To be completely honest, it’s only because of Krypto the Dog that I’m watching the Superman movie.’
‘We need a Krypto solo movie,’ another said.
One viewer tweeted that they found the trailer fantastic, and having Krypto in it immediately sparked their desire to purchase tickets on the first day, as they have a soft spot for pets, particularly their two beloved dogs.
James Gunn‘s words were, ‘You all found Groot and Baby Yoda adorable? Get ready!’ This is in reference to Superman and Krypto.” (Hashtag included for clarity)
‘Indeed. Krypto gonna be the star,’ one agreed.
On July 11, 2025, the upcoming movie that’s being helmed by director James Gunn, who brought us “Guardians of the Galaxy”, is set to premiere in cinemas.
Joining an illustrious roster of actors portraying Superman in cinema, Corenswet extends his legacy, with performances tracing back as far as 1948 when Kirk Alyn first donned the cape on the big screen.
In 1951, it was George Reeves who portrayed Superman for the first time on the big screen, but it wasn’t until 1978’s Superman that Christopher Reeve took on the iconic role of the Man of Steel in a major studio production.
In sequence, he once again took up the role in Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, but eventually decided to end his association with the series.
1995 marked a significant turning point for Reeve, as he suffered a devastating equestrian accident that left him completely paralyzed from his neck down, dramatically altering his life’s trajectory.
In October 2004, Anthony Hopkins, known for playing The Remains of the Day, fell into a coma and passed away only hours afterwards, leaving him at the tender age of 52.
Starting from 2006 with Superman Returns, Brandon Routh portrayed Superman, followed by Henry Cavill stepping into the role in Man of Steel (2013), then Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and finally Justice League (2017).
Instead of following the usual pattern of origin stories as seen in many Superman movies, the upcoming film will concentrate on the character when he is around 26 years old.
The movie marks the start of a fresh franchise spearheaded jointly by James Gunn and DC Studios Co-Chairman Peter Safran; subsequent to this, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is slated for a release on June 26, 2026.
