A fresh piece of concept art has given us a glimpse into an altered appearance of María Gabriela De Faría’s villain, the Engineer, as she appears in James Gunn’s adaptation of Superman. Known also by the name Angela Spica, this character serves as one of Lex Luthor’s adversaries, aiding him in his efforts to bring down David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman. The Engineer is a formidable figure within the DCU, boasting nanites flowing through her veins that she can mold into solid objects.

More recently, Concept Artist Constantine Sekeris unveiled a revised design for María Gabriela De Faría’s Engineer character from the Superman movie, which closely resembles her attire in the James Gunn-led production.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Serkeris unveiled multiple shots of the Engineer’s unique appearance and penned, “Another fantastic character brought to life from the comics… We stayed faithful to the source material and aimed to give her costume a distinctive breathable touch when she activated her nano tech… She was quite a challenge, but we tackled it as a team. The incredibly talented folks at @legacyeffects also joined us with their outstanding design work, helping us explore various ideas that I’m sure you’ll appreciate in due time.
In simpler terms, this character known as the Engineer is part of Lex Luthor’s group, playing a significant role in their plan to defeat Superman. During the final confrontation with Superman, the Engineer unfortunately suffers defeat.
During an interview with Remezcla in April 2025, María Gabriela De Faría discussed her role as The Engineer in the movie: “Playing this character was incredibly demanding both physically and emotionally. The Engineer is a very active character, not just because of her appearance in the comics, but also due to all the tasks I had to perform on set.
