Superman and Lois season 4 episode 7 recap and ending explained: [SPOILER]’s identity revealed
As a long-time fan of Superman, I must say that this week’s episode of “Superman and Lois” was nothing short of breathtaking. The secret finally out, Clark Kent is free from the shackles of his double life and can now live authentically.
In just four episodes left until the finale of “Superman and Lois,” the series is keeping the narrative centered on human emotions. If you’ve been tuning in since the start, you’ll recognize that this show has consistently emphasized humanity, a trait that’s evident in its compelling portrayal episode after episode.
This season focuses on the main characters of the show, their reactions to Lex Luthor’s arrival in Smallville, and the ongoing struggle of the Kent-Lane-Irons family with their own mortality. Superman, who has been grappling with this issue more than anyone else due to his death and resurrection, is learning that he’s more human than ever before, thanks to the humanity within him which was given by Sam Lane. This newfound humanity, while beneficial in most circumstances, becomes a challenge when facing off against one’s greatest enemy who seeks nothing but pain for you and your loved ones.
In the seventh episode, “A Regular Guy” finds Clark grappling with his recent awareness of mortality while keeping up the facade that he isn’t actually Superman in Smallville. This complex odyssey for Superman presents a challenging yet intriguing character development arc for him to navigate.
Hey there fellow gamer! If you haven’t yet watched the thrilling seventh episode of Superman and Lois season 4, beware – I’m about to drop some major spoilers your way. If you’d rather keep the suspense alive, it’s best to skip this chat. Enjoy the game instead!
A Regular Guy
The series ‘A Regular Guy’ revolves around Clark Kent’s unwavering dedication to concealing his life-long secret. As rumors swirl in Smallville that he might be the Man of Steel, he’s been making the rounds, trying to dispel these suspicions. A particularly amusing scene involves him tripping and falling clumsily as Clark Kent in front of Coach Gaines, all to divert attention from his true identity. Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of Clark Kent stands out as the most authentic in this era (and possibly any other).
However, tension arises when Jonathan and Jordan encounter Timmy Ryan, a student from season 2 who had used X-Kryptonite to amplify his abilities. He accuses them of dishonesty in sports due to their status as the Superboys, harboring resentment towards Jonathan for an earlier altercation involving the X-K. Additionally, Timmy’s knowledge of their secret stems from the night Doomsday invaded Smallville, as he observed Jordan flying away with his father’s body during the season premiere. Clark is dismayed by this situation and tries to persuade the boys to clear their names with Timmy and his mother. Eventually, they manage to do so, but Jon and Jordan feel remorseful for deceiving their former friend, who was actually telling the truth, and inadvertently causing him trouble with his mother.
As a loyal admirer, I can say that when I found out Jordan shared our family’s closely guarded secret with Candice Pergande, it sent a shiver down my spine. Sure, it strengthened her bond with Jonathan, but it also potentially exposed our secret to the world – something Clark has warned us about, as he’s had to pay the price of lost friendships in the past when this very same secret was revealed. So, guys, we need to be fully aware that such a revelation could jeopardize our relationships too, just like it did for Clark, throughout our lives.
The climax unfolds when Clark and Lois decide to dine out with Kyle and Chrissy, intending to reveal their plan of contributing towards the payment of their new residence. Lois even proposes purchasing half of the Smallville Gazette from Chrissy to prevent her from selling it, assuring her she can regain ownership in the future if she so desires, provided she continues as co-editor. However, their joy is short-lived as Emmitt Pergande, father of Candice, unexpectedly enters the scene, brandishing a gun and confronting Clark publicly, now acknowledging him as Superman after realizing his true identity.
Clark is compelled to acknowledge the truth he’s shielded throughout his life as he’s shot. In a leisurely pace, he observes the bullet approach him and offers Lois a smile in return. As he does so, he uncovers his shirt to showcase the Superman suit hidden beneath. The bullet strikes the House of El emblem on his chest, flattening itself against his robust physique. Once the scene settles, Vicky Mays finds herself face-to-face with none other than Superman, the Steel Man himself – Clark Kent.
Clark acknowledges he should have been open about the truth earlier, but he views this as a chance for complete honesty worldwide. With this in mind, Lois contacts Janet at the Daily Planet and they conduct an extensive interview, during which Clark unveils his genuine identity to the global public. This groundbreaking revelation is set to reshape the lives of the Kents significantly, but it’s a decision made together as a family, recognizing how their secret has impacted their relationships in the past; now, there’s no going back.
During the entire episode, we got multiple glimpses of Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s past at the Daily Planet. We later learned that Janet Olsen’s sibling is none other than Jimmy Olsen, who persuaded Clark to join his baseball team. Initially hesitant due to the need for explanations for his frequent absences related to his future secret identity as Superman, Clark eventually agreed and formed a friendship with Jimmy. Things began smoothly, but curiosity got the better of Jimmy when he started questioning Clark’s reasons for being absent frequently. In response, Clark lied about the cause of his absence and missed their last game (without intervening in any heroic manner) to confuse Jimmy about his double life. The ruse worked, but it ultimately severed their friendship.
Currently, after the secret has been revealed, Clark immediately had Janet organize a meeting between him and Jimmy. Without his glasses, Clark Kent walked into Vicky Mays, causing some bewildered glances from the crowd; however, this didn’t faze him because, tucked away at the back of the café, Jimmy Olsen – his closest friend – was already there with a warm smile and an embracing hug.
The Secret Is Out
That episode of Superman and Lois was truly groundbreaking, as “A Regular Guy” fundamentally altered the show’s dynamics and challenged the core principles of Superman himself. The revelation of an enormous secret from the DC Universe left viewers in awe, and it was a shock that had been brewing for Clark Kent for quite some time.
In this latest gaming session, I realized that holding onto my secret superhero identity has had a massive impact on my life as Clark Kent. Sure, I shared it with Lois Lane, and we even passed the secret down to our kids, Jonathan and Jordan. But Lois made me see in this episode that I’ve also lost friendships along the way – Jimmy Olsen being a clear example of that. Despite his brief moment of figuring out the truth, I had to deceive him to keep my secret safe. That lie cost us our friendship, just like it almost ruined Jonathan’s relationship with Candice and affected Jordan’s past connection with Sarah.
Carrying such a secret can feel like an immense burden, with the constant worry that someone might uncover it and use it against you. In this case, Lex Luthor discovered the secret earlier in the season, which set off this entire chain of events since he was the one who informed Emmitt Pergande (not Candice). However, by revealing his own involvement, Luthor indirectly forced the Kents to act – they had to confront the situation openly and take control, even if it meant revealing the truth to the world.
The Kents are now able to lead their lives openly, free from the burden and apprehension of keeping their secret concealed. This fresh start represents not only the closing of an old chapter but also the beginning of a completely new one. It’s a world filled with honesty, courage, and the freedom to be true to themselves in every aspect.
Superman and Lois season 4 airs new episodes on The CW on Monday nights at 8/7c.
