Superman and Lois just did something no other Superman story has ever done

As a seasoned gamer of Superman tales, I’ve witnessed the rise and fall of many Man of Steel adaptations, but none has ever captured my heart like the current run of Superman and Lois. This series has breathed new life into the classic story, weaving emotional depth and intrigue that even the source material never reached. The show’s fourth season has been a rollercoaster ride, and its seventh episode was no exception.

Since the premiere of Superman and Lois on screens in 2021, its loyal followers have been urging for increased focus on the show. It’s quite evident why this is so, as The CW series has reimagined the traditional Superman and Lois Lane storyline for a contemporary audience, giving depth and weight to the classic characters’ lives and steering them towards paths that the original source material did not explore.

In this storyline, the Kent parents find it challenging to raise their twin boys, Jonathan and Jordan, who lead double lives as superheroes and reporters in the bustling city of Metropolis. To provide a quieter, more family-oriented environment, they decide to relocate to Smallville. This move has brought them closer together and allowed them to integrate into the local community. It’s been an enjoyable journey for viewers throughout its four seasons, making it one of the many reasons why this cherished series should continue airing for a considerable time yet.

Right now, it’s thriving during its last season, and it’s undeniably reshaping the storyline for the Steel Man and his kin. This much is evident in its seventh episode, which fulfills the pledge the creative team made before the debut – to break new ground in Superman adaptations that no one has ever attempted before. Mission successfully completed.

This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Superman and Lois season 4 episode 7. Don’t read on if you have not yet watched the episode.

Superman reveals his true identity to the world in Superman and Lois season 4

In the seventh episode of “Superman and Lois,” titled “A Regular Guy,” Clark Kent faced a challenge as he tried to hide the world’s most significant secret – his identity as Superman. As people in Smallville started suspecting, he made some initial efforts to mislead his friends, but eventually found himself cornered and forced to disclose the truth.

In the town of Vicky Mays, Emmett Pergande, father of Candice, confronted Clark Kent with a gun, having learned through rumors that Clark was actually Superman. Seeking revenge, he aimed his weapon at the Man of Steel and pulled the trigger, hoping to force him to unmask himself. After a brief pause, Clark let the bullet strike him, but not before he showed Pergande his Superman costume hidden beneath his clothes. The secret was now exposed, and everyone in Smallville knew that Clark Kent was indeed Superman.

Superman and Lois just did something no other Superman story has ever done

This development in “Superman and Lois” is significant, serving as a strong hint that the series may be wrapping up. The cat’s out of the bag now, and it will irrevocably alter Clark, Lois, and the boys’ lives. With their identities exposed, not only will their enemies know who they are, but the entire world will. This means everyday activities like grocery shopping or going out for dinner could be under increased scrutiny.

This action also provided relief for the Man of Steel, as it allowed him to stop constantly worrying about someone revealing his secret and endangering his family. Now, the truth about his family has been made public, giving the Kents a chance to handle any resulting attention. Moreover, this decision empowers them to regain control in a situation that could have left them feeling powerless, all while fostering relationships based on honesty rather than deception or fabrications.

Superman and Lois takes a page out of Supergirl’s playbook

Previously unseen in live-action Superman films or TV shows is the event where Clark Kent discloses his real identity to the world. However, such a revelation isn’t a novelty when it comes to family members of Superman, as this act has been portrayed before, specifically within The CW’s version of the House of El.

In simpler terms, the parent series of ‘Superman and Lois’, titled ‘Supergirl’, ended after six seasons. The main character, Kara Danvers (a.k.a Supergirl), bravely chose to unmask herself to the world in the final episode. Similar to Clark Kent, she symbolically removed her glasses in a public place, signifying her determination to take charge of her life. The last scene showed Kara giving an interview to Cat Grant, owner of CatCo, where she publicly acknowledged that she was indeed Supergirl, announcing this truth to National City and the world.

Superman and Lois just did something no other Superman story has ever done

Initially, Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch made their debut as Superman and Lois Lane on the series Supergirl. They portrayed different versions of these characters before their standalone spinoff, Superman and Lois, was released. Interestingly, this version of Superman we met in that show probably still has his secret identity, given that Superman and Lois is set on an alternate Earth. However, it’s quite ironic that the last vestige of the Arrowverse drew inspiration from the very show that gave birth to it initially.

In their final seasons, both Superman and Supergirl unveiled their hidden identities. However, while Superman and Lois has yet to fully explore the aftermath as it still has three episodes left, Supergirl ended with a major shakeup. This allows fans to witness how this revelation unfolds in the storyline and observe the world’s reaction to Clark Kent, an ordinary man, being unmasked as the powerful Man of Steel.

As a gamer diving into this epic tale, it’s thrilling to witness pivotal moments for our characters and see the creative team taking bold storytelling strides. With the end of the show in sight, they can certainly afford to aim high. It seems that these brave choices are resonating off-screen with Kara, and on-screen, it’s evident that Clark is reaping the rewards too.
