In newly released high-definition images from DC Studios’ 2025 Superman film, the previously unveiled hidden villain stole the limelight. The much-anticipated Superman movie marked the beginning of the new DC Universe’s cinematic lineup in July, featuring more than a handful of adversarial characters engaging with David Corenswet as the titular character, Superman. Among these foes, one remained shrouded in mystery to a greater extent than the others, resulting in some thrilling plot twists as the narrative progressed.
Starting from July 11, 2025, you can either buy or rent Superman digitally, marking its availability beyond the theater screens. This development allows fans to witness Ultraman, the movie’s elusive antagonist, in action at home for the first time. Interestingly, Ultraman was hinted at in promotional materials as early as April 2025, paving the way for exciting encounters between him and Corenswet portraying Clark Kent on their screens at home.
In the initial sequences of Superman, the character was given the name ‘Hammer of Boravia’. He donned a heavy golden armor, which was believed to be impervious to harm, as it first appeared on screen.

Afterward, the formidable adversary was spotted without the golden-plated armor, instead donning a sleek black suit adorned with a white “U” on the chest region. Equipped with a black mask featuring integrated goggles, Ultraman emerged as the focus of attention under Lex Luthor’s supervision.

In the movie, the surprising twist unfolded when it was disclosed that Ultraman was actually a clone of David Corenswet’s character, Clark Kent. Removing his mask to unveil Corenswet’s likeness, Superman encountered an adversary equally formidable, yet significantly more enraged and aggressive than himself.

In trailers for the film, fans immediately got a glimpse of Ultraman without his mask on the very day it was released, but the visuals didn’t offer a clear view of Corenswet’s face. Instead, they showed Ultraman using his heat vision to attack Superman from afar, however, due to his longer, disheveled hairstyle, fans were only able to catch a glimpse of the villain’s hairdo rather than his facial features.

Ultraman lacked the intelligence and empathy that characterizes Corenswet’s lead character, instead exhibiting raw anger and aggression toward his heroic counterpart. With no hesitation, he utilized his powers extensively, employing his strength and heat vision frequently, as Lex Luthor barked out instructions.

Initially created by Luthor as a means to eliminate Superman and recruit him into his Army of PlanetWatch, the clone of Superman later became a source of emotional turmoil when Clark Kent first encountered the villain’s likeness.

In my humble opinion, as a dedicated film critic, the climactic showdown between Superman and Ultraman was nothing short of spectacular. Towards the finale, Superman unleashed an almighty blast that propelled Ultraman into the abyss of a black hole, catapulting him to the farthest reaches of our cosmos. However, the fate of our interstellar adversary beyond that decisive moment remains shrouded in mystery.
On July 11, the movie “Superman” made its theater debut, marking the initial theatrical release in James Gunn’s fresh DC Universe. Featuring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, this film finds Superman at the start of his career as a journalist and superhero, thrust into his first significant confrontation with Lex Luthor and other formidable adversaries. You can now purchase or rent “Superman” on various digital platforms.
Will Ultraman Return to the DCU After Superman 2025?

In my view, the climactic scene of “Superman” saw Ultraman being hurled into a cosmic abyss, while Clark Kent valiantly saved Metropolis and rebuilt it from the ground up. Given the rich mythology surrounding potential adversaries for Superman in future sequels (which are indeed in development), one can’t help but speculate if the Superman clone might resurface to join the action at a later time.
Speculations are stirring about Ultraman potentially transforming into DC Universe’s counterpart to Bizarro Superman in the future. Some fans speculate that the other side of a black hole might eventually develop into Bizarro World. Although it remains uncertain if this plot is intended for a forthcoming storyline, the possibility for an eccentric, alternate-universe portrayal of Superman causing chaos in the primary DC Universe timeline has been established.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but get excited about the prospect of Superman returning to our screens once again, with David Corenswet taking on the iconic role. With such a vast roster of formidable villains at Superman’s disposal, it’s only a matter of time before one of them steps up to challenge the Man of Steel in an upcoming adventure. Names like General Zod, Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid, and others are all potential candidates for the role of Superman’s next adversary. The burning question on everyone’s mind is who will make their debut first and create a truly epic showdown between hero and villain.
With the ongoing Kryptonian storyline in the DC Universe escalating, as Supergirl is due out in June 2026, Corenswet’s prominent DC character will undoubtedly continue to leave a lasting impression for many years ahead.
