Superman 2025: 6 Shocking Man of Steel Characters Returning With New Actors

In 2025, a number of well-known figures from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel have been verified for the upcoming Superman film. It’s not surprising that some of these characters are anticipated to show up in James Gunn’s modern interpretation of DC Comics’ legendary Kryptonian, as they will bring fresh portrayals, with new actors imbuing the classic DC characters with their unique touch.

In its initial attempt at Gunn’s DCU, Superman isn’t holding back, featuring several DC characters yet to grace the big screen (such as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho). Moreover, it will present fresh perspectives on classic elements of the Superman film lore, a part of the DC universe last explored in 2013’s Man of Steel.

To date, a total of six different interpretations of the Man of Steel character have been revealed to feature prominently in Superman, as James Gunn launches the DCU with his inaugural film within this connected cinematic universe.

Every Confirmed Man of Steel Character Set To Appear in Superman

Superman

Without a doubt, no Superman film would be whole without its main character, the Man of Steel. In the 2025 Superman movie, this role is taken by David Corenswet. Corenswet steps into the blue and red suit, presenting a more self-assured, ambitious portrayal of the legendary hero. By the time the film begins, he’s already been safeguarding Earth’s people for quite some time.

The portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman by Henry Cavill in his 2013 film is significantly distinct from the version you see in The Witcher. In Man of Steel, Cavill’s characterization traced Superman’s origins, whereas he played the character as serious and rooted within the DCEU environment that was being established.

Lois Lane

In the upcoming movie, Rachel Brosnahan portrays a fresh, youthful take on the well-known DC Comics character Lois Lane, who is also an exceptional journalist. Unlike previous representations, this version of Lois is in her mid-to-late twenties and is employed at the Daily Planet, where she interacts with David Corenswet’s Superman.

She assumes the role previously played by Amy Adams in “Man of Steel”. While Adams portrayed Lois Lane admirably and was well-known for her character, she differs from Brosnahan’s interpretation, as Adams played a seasoned international journalist with a no-nonsense attitude, contrasting with the greenhorn approach that seems to be Brosnahan’s take on the character.

Jonathan Kent

In James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, it is expected that Jonathan Kent, who served as Superman’s earthly mentor, will make an appearance. This role was previously played by Kevin Costner in the movie “Man of Steel,” and his portrayal of Jonathan was memorable due to his selfless act of giving up his life during a destructive tornado when Clark was seventeen years old.

2025’s Superman may see Pruitt Taylor Vince reprising his role as Jonathan Kent, but it remains uncertain whether his character will perish in the upcoming movie. Considering that the story is set several years beyond when he would have passed away in the Man of Steel continuity, it wouldn’t be unexpected if he survived until the Superman film.

Martha Kent

In the trailer for Superman, viewers caught a peek at Neva Howell’s portrayal of Martha Kent, but the promotional materials haven’t delved too far into her role in the upcoming film. The main distinction between her and her character from Man of Steel is age – Howell is 60 years old and taking on this iconic comic role, making her one of the oldest actors to do so.

In the initial Zack Snyder DC Extended Universe film, Diane Lane’s portrayal of Martha Kent was significantly younger, around 50 years old in Man of Steel. As the series progressed, her character aged, but it began at a relatively early stage compared to her later appearances.

Perry White

Instead of Lawrence Fishburne portraying Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Superman, it has been announced that Wendell Pierce from The Wire will take on this role instead. Like Fishburne, Pierce’s interpretation of the character is expected to showcase a sharp sense of humor and the ability to assert authority when necessary.

In different Superman films, both Pierce Brosnan and Laurence Fishburne played Lois Lane and Clark Kent’s boss; however, their portrayals of Perry White are likely to differ due to the fact that the comic book character was known for smoking cigars frequently. Unlike Fishburne’s Perry, who didn’t smoke much, Pierce Brosnan’s version will have a significant smoking habit.

Steve Lombard

In both “Superman” and “Man of Steel,” a recurring figure in the Daily Planet newsroom is Steve Lombard. In “Man of Steel,” Michael Kelly portrays this character, offering a modern twist on the Daily Planet’s famous reporter. His Steve Lombard is a self-centered, witty womanizer who often takes offense to jokes and humor directed at him.

The representation of Steve Lombard in the upcoming James Gunn “Superman” movie will contrast significantly with previous portrayals. Instead of Superman’s character, it is Beck Bennett who takes on the role of Steve Lombard. From the brief glimpses we’ve seen so far, his character appears to sport a comical mustache. Given that Bennett is in charge this time around, viewers might anticipate a humorous role rather than one that is creepy or unsettling in an office setting.

The much-anticipated movie featuring Superman, titled “Superman: Rise of Justice,” will take flight in theaters on July 11, 2025. This comic book adventure is being directed by James Gunn, fresh off his success with “Guardians of the Galaxy” and recently appointed as co-CEO at DC Studios. The film aims to launch a new interconnected DC Cinematic Universe, making it the franchise’s initial foray into a unified big-screen storyline.

In this upcoming film, we find Superman/Clark Kent further into his career as Earth’s mighty superhero. However, he faces his most formidable adversary yet – the cunning and malevolent Lex Luthor (portrayed by Nicholas Hoult), who harbors resentment towards the accountability-free alien defender of our planet.
